MY HEART is the 29th original album from the GRAMMY award-winning singer Doris Day. It features PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED song material which Doris cut after a brief return to the recording studio during the mid-1980s.

These sessions took place after Doris Day's late son Terry Melcher convinced his dear Mom to return to the recording studio under his guise. Six of the new songs contained on MY HEART originate from these very sessions. Although a few of the recordings were aired during the eighties on the star's American chat show, "Doris Day's Best Friends", the majority were left in an "unfinished" state until they were polished and perfected by the multi-platinum selling British producer Ted Carfrae who recorded additional orchestrations to complete the songs.

Doris was fully involved in the music selections for MY HEART which is notably her first original album for over 17 years (the last being "Love Album"). As well as the eighties recordings there is also a studio recording taken from one of Day's 1970s US TV specials plus a trio of other Doris Day classics lifted from the vaults at Columbia - each of these were hand picked by the star for sentimental reasons. The album is dedicated to the memory of Ms. Day's son Terry Melcher.

In September 2011, the MY HEART album was released in the UK where it rocketed into the UK album chart at #9. As a result of its runaway success Doris Day became the oldest singer in UK chart history to have a TOP 10 hit with an album of new material. Although initially only available throughout Europe MY HEART is now available across the singer's home country of the USA thanks to her own label Arwin Productions.

To millions of people, Doris Day is best known as the enormously popular star of dozens of hit movie musicals and comedies in the 1950's and 60's. She later starred on a hit CBS television series that ran into the 1970's by which time she began devoting more and more of her time to animal welfare. With few exceptions, she has remained out of the limelight since her move to picturesque Carmel by the Sea some thirty years ago.

Doris Day's tremendous movie stardom overshadowed, in many ways, her equally successful career as a recording artist. Beginning in the mid-1940's, for more than twenty years she was one of the biggest recording artists at Columbia, earning enough Gold Records to panel several walls. Two of her song hits won Academy Awards as Best Song and another 4 were nominated for the honor.

Her theme song - Whatever Will Be, Will Be" (Que Sera Sera) is fixed in the minds of many as the only song Miss Day is known for. In reality, she recorded nearly 700 songs and some of her concept albums from the 50's and 60's are among the best recordings ever made. Her duet album from the early 60's with Andre Previn is a classic of its type. "Latin for Lovers" is an exhilarating mix of sensuality and Latin-type music that is intoxicating and Day's take on "Let it Snow" from her 1960's Christmas album is the sexiest version of this song ever recorded.

Day's vocal skills are flawless. Her diction, breath control and the warmth she projects when she sings, making the listener feel she is singing directly to them, earns her a place as one of the finest vocalists of the 20th Century.

After decades away from the recording studio, Miss Day's first album of new material in years has been released by Sony Music.

Dear Music Appreciators,

If you don't know who Doris Day is there are a lot of things you could do to correct such a travesty of baby-boomer pop culture ignorance, but my favorite suggestion (assuming you like movies) would be to watch the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, in which she presents a classic Doris Day acting performance accompanied by the introduction of her signature song - "Que Sera Sera" to the world.

And now here is Ms. Day at the age of eighty-seven, suddenly releasing an album of songs a full seventeen years after her last such effort.

And it's good too.

One of the most popular singers and actresses of the 20th century has still got it going on. Granted, the majority of the songs on this album were recorded nearly thirty years ago (and the rest are even older), but if the artist is to the world what the artist gives to the world, then this year Doris Day is magically thirty years younger and once again doing what she does best.

And speaking of knowing who Doris Day is - how old are you anyway? Perhaps leave a comment and let your fellow music appreciators know and we'll all get a sense of the kind of generational wingspan Ms. Day may (or may not) possess in the Information Age.

Sincerely,

Constant Listener

This new release by Doris Day is truly an amazing collection of songs by the most gifted and talented lady this world has ever known. I can't stop listening to YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. I have never heard this song sung with such feeling and warmth. It now belongs to Doris. All of the unreleased cuts are wonderful. THE WAY I DREAMED IT and DISNEY GIRLS are pure Doris and MY HEART, well there are no words to describe the beauty of her singing this
emotional piece of music. There are other great singers such as Streisand but they sing for the world. Doris sings just for you. A rare gift that no one has come near matching. Other singers say hey look I'm singing but with Doris it just comes as a natural part of her being. The song HAPPY ENDINGS sung and co-written by her son is to quote Paul Brogan, HAUNTING. It will make you cry as well as make you smile. If only we could go back to that wonderful time. Maybe, Doris will bring it all back. I adore this special LADY.
