I've been a fan of O'Brother for almost 2 years now, have seen them 4 or 5 times, and have gotten to know them pretty well. Garden Window's release is an important one for them as it outlines, in great detail, what this band is all about. Their pride, passion, and sincerity drips from each ominous, bright, sludgy, dissonant chord. Every track is layered, with harmony and melody hiding behind every massive swell of sound - it can be sonic blunt-force, or it can be subtle, haunting quiet. Five stars for this review is accurate, as I really do "love" this album, as I've seen and heard their progression over the past two years, and feel like this absolutely represents everything they set out to do. And, more than anything, this album just wails. For fans of Radiohead, Isis, Converge, Cave In, Manchester Orchestra, and Colour Revolt.

I saw O'Brother play a show in Salt Lake City with the likes of Thrice, The Dear Hunter, and Manchester Orchestra. I was an instant fan. In my opinion, they outshined Manchester and were just as entertaining live as The Dear Hunter and Thrice, which is saying a lot. Their sound is gritty, low, chunky but also harmonic, smooth and deep. (I know, you're probably like "chunky" and "smooth"? They're a band, not peanut butter! Just give them a listen. That's the best I could come up with.) They go from heavy, earsplitting rock to gentle, melodic harmonies--and it sounds amazing. If you are a fan of melodic rock, heavy percussion, intricate harmonies and music with seemingly infinite layers of sounds, this band is for you.

I got this record on iTunes back when it came out in November. To keep this short and sweet I have loved every second of this album. I find it hard to go a single day without listening to it. It's dark, brooding, atmospheric, heavy, and melodic yet incredible gentile when need be. While you can hear many of the band's influences shine through (particularly Radiohead and Cave In) it feels very original and natural. Something I really appreciate is the lack of generic song structures. While a few follow the usual song formula a majority have their own unique template.

I saw O'Brother perform live on tour with Thrice in San Francisco and Sacramento. They play with such passion it's nearly impossible to not be mesmerized watching them. They also play very loud, sort of like a brick wall of sound crashing against your ears. Needless to say it was so enjoyable I had to buy this record the minute it came out. This is probably my favorite record of 2011 and easily one of my all time favorites. Support this band!

You won't be disappointed.

Garden Window, the follow up to "Death of a Day" is by far o'Brother's greatest record. It combines a very heavy, melodic feel with these almost symphonic parts. It is literally mind-blowing. They are such great artists.

I have been a huge fan of O'Brother for years now. I started with their EP (Death of Day) that I downloaded for free. The first time I listened to that album I must say I was bored. I don't know what was in the water that I drank that day. I listened to them again and instantly fell in love. I listen to A LOT of music and so I was astonished when I was forced to admit that they were my favorite band purely based off an EP!

Then came along Garden Window. I was worried that they couldn't top Death of Day or that at least they might have some throw away songs. However, after a few listens, I realized that Garden Window was every bit as good as Death of Day.

O'Brother combines beauty and fury to create an ethereal experience that is truly spiritual. I wish everyone could have a listen to this album. I can't imagine regretting it.
