I bought this because all of the other reviews said it works without any trouble in Linux-Ubuntu. This is not strictly true. I am running Kimo 2.0 32 bit(based on Ubuntu 10.04). My internal PCI card would not pick up a signal or have enough strength to connect to my router about 100 feet away on the same floor. I bought this and plugged it in. It turned on right away and was recognized by my wireless software. It could not "see" any networks though. Hmm...I wondered if the adapter was just no good. I plugged it into my Windows laptop and got 54mbps immediately while it was sitting on top of the Linux box. Okay, so it wasn't the USB wireless adapter. I'm new to Linux, so after much searching online, and then searching to understand what I found online, here is what I had to do to make it work properly...

If you have Ubuntu 10.04 (or any flavor based on Ubuntu 10.04. I am using Kimo 2.0), you don't need a new driver. Your machine has the best one already. It's just that for some odd reason Ubuntu uses two conflicting drivers for the same USB adapter (RT2800usb and RT2870sta). You only want your computer to use RT2870sta. You can to go into the terminal and "blacklist" (search google to find out how to do this) RT2800usb to stop the computer from using it.

Now you can "see" wireless networks, but good luck connecting to any of them. I found out from all of the helpful Ubuntu forums that you have to make sure your wireless router is only using WPA2 personal mode. Most routers unfortunately run in WPA and WPA2 mode. The Ubuntu driver does not like this and it causes havoc with your connection. Google how to change your wireless settings on your router, fix them up, and enjoy a good wireless connection at last!

I am using the Edimax EW-7711USn 150Mbps Wireless 11n USB Adapter With 3dBi Detachable High-Gain Antenna in home. My ISP is CenturyLink and I utilize a Westell 7500 modem/router. My computer runs Linux Mint 13 'Maya'. This Wireless Adapter has built in support in the Linux Mint kernel and was picked up immediately. All I had to do was provide my SSID, my WPA2 password, etc. in the network manager and I was internet connected instantly after completion. The Wireless Adapter works well and provides me full internet speed. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and have always maintained my network/internet connection at full speed. I like this product.

What more can i say about this adapter, from day one its given me no trouble in setup and usage, with the drivers being open source it makes this adapter compatible with various Operating systems such as Linux[Ubuntu ect] A must buy and far better experince from the various netgear, dlink, and other such brand name adapters I've used.

Installation was plug-and-play right out of the box, though it restarted itself about 10 times before finally stabilizing. My guess is that is was installing and updating drivers. The signal is twice as strong as my old Cisco adapter (which I do not recommend...see my review!). I don't get a full five bars no matter how I rotate the antena, but the connection is still excellent.

My only complaint with this Edimax adapter (and it may just be the particular one I received) is that the USB male-female connection feels a bit loose. If anyone knows how to tighten the USB connector, feel free to offer your suggestions.

Well not much I can say about this adapter except I bought it after searching high and low for linux-compatible hardware at an affordable price. The Edimax works like a dream, straight out of the package all I did was plug it in and install my Linux and wallah! Unlike a more expensive Netgear which even after dozens of attempts and trials still did not work with my linux.

This seemed like exactly what I needed to give my older 802.11g-equipped netbook a faster 802.11n connection and slightly more range. But the adapter just didn't perform. In fact, based on the numbers I got from several broadband test sites, it often slowed my download speed. The only reason I'm giving it three stars instead of one is that when I e-mailed Edimax support, I got quick, pertinent replies that showed the woman who responded had actually read what I wrote. (This may not sound like much, but I've had support replies that were sent by someone who'd scanned the subject line and maybe the first sentence, then shipped off a form letter with only a vague connection to the question.)

I initially got in touch with the company because the configuration utility couldn't be viewed in its entirety on my small screen, despite my having changed the resolution and attempted to switch the orientation. The Edimax rep sent me a different download link with instructions to install only the driver, not the utility. That worked fine - but then I had to write again when I found I was getting very poor speeds after numerous tests on several sites. She promptly replied and offered possible fixes, all of which I tried without success. Maybe I just got a defective item. I'm returning it to Amazon and will shop for another brand. But I'd consider buying an Edimax product again at some point because of their good customer service.
