The yarn is nice and soft and I believe it will crochet up nicely. I would've given it 5 stars, but I am disappointed with the color. It may be my laptop screen but I doubt it and dye lot can make a difference but usually not this much of one. The Mardi Gras color scheme in the striping picture appears to be deeper than it is with green, purple, red, yellow . It's more pale green, lavender, yellow, orange, and pink. So if you're thinking these will be darker more muted colors, it's not. I thought this would be a good gender neutral yarn since I won't know for another couple months if we're having a boy or a girl but I'm in the mood to crochet baby blankets now. I really wish the color was what I thought. But it's very nice yarn and I'll make something with it. If not for me, then a friend with a baby girl (lots of babies coming this year).

I'm in the process of making a c2c baby blanket it with it and can only say I cannot wait until I've finished and no longer have to work with this yarn due to the problems I've had with this Lion Brand variety. Granted, it is a nice light-weight soft yarn, but the yarn is NOT well spun (well made). It frequently becomes tangled and knotted due to the yarn strands/fibers being spun quite loosely which makes working with it frustrating due to my hook ending up between strands and/or the fibers snagging on the hook while starting and/or completing a stitch.
Therefore, I would NOT pay more than the $2.49 price of ANY of the colors in this yarn. Not only because of the quality, but also because of the small amount of yarn you receive. If the price were to be higher, I would much rather go down to my local Hobby Lobby (or other Craft/Fabric/Yarn store) and spend the extra couple of dollars saved on their store brand or other brand yarn that is better made, is just as soft, if not softer, and that comes in more color and ombre varieties, but also comes in larger skeins. Meaning, I'm getting better quality and quantity of yarn for the couple extra dollar or 2 paid at the store!

I am a beginner crocheter who can't get enough of these variegated coloured yarns, so of course I bought a bunch of these small skeins of 'Jamie' yarn in Caribbean Stripes. I am currently using it to crochet a baby blanket for my pregnant sister. I don't know all the fancy crochet terms to explain yet, but it is soft and goes along easily. It is thin, but it works up very well and quickly. I bought four in one order and they all came from the same dye lot but that is not a guarantee (another 6 are now on their way; I'll update when I receive them).
In my picture, you'll see that I'm doing a double stranded, single crochet stitch throughout the whole blanket. The way the colours go together with the double strands is so interesting on it's own that I'm happy with just a basic single crochet. Obviously most people won't be doing double strands, but the colours are just as brilliant single-stranded, so anyone should be happy with it.
