I am a mailman and bought these for work. I did not realize they were insulated and they are also very high. One super cold days the insulation is a plus but with walking all day it can become too much. I have non spiked overshoes too and prefer them not insulated. Also with no instructions I think everyone should know to tighten all the studs with the included wrench before wearing. I lost five in the first hour but Amazon took care of it. If you are walking in ice these are absolutely amazing. One word of caution is these make it very slick on painted or tiled surfaces.

This is the second season that I have used these and I bought them primarily for snowshoeing and ice fishing. They are fairly easy to get on but I would suggest going to their website first to size yourself. I wear a size 12 eee in a work boot and 12 to 13 hiking boot and the xxl are working great for me. As far a traction is concerned, they are really nice. I walked around on the ice like regular ground. I never slipped once. You know how when you walk on very slippery surfaces and you have a tendency to take little steps and over-correct when you expect to slip at anytime? Not with these. I watched everyone else around me go down on the ice but I couldn't make myself slip. One downside, I've already lost one of the cleats that come with the overshoes so I highly recommend checking them every time you put them on. They come with a handy little wrench that fits in a pouch inside your right overshoe. I've also ordered extra cleats. I might consider using Locktite threadlocker Blue 242. I hope this helps.

I live in Wyoming, and since I'm visually impaired, I walk. I will say that this is a great idea. They are warm, and it's nice to wear nicer shoes to the office, clean and dry, inside these boots.

But the stabilicer cleats wear quickly when worn over mixed urban surfaces. I routinely walk on snow and ice, followed by stretches of dry pavement and cleared sidewalks. I wish the studs were carbide instead of steel. I've had several pull out of the sole, and can't replace them since the mount has been dislodged too.

In my experience, the worn cleats increase the chances of slipping on ice since they act like marbles. For an urban setting I recommend the non cleated version.

NEOS overshoes were recommended to me from a source I trust greatly when it comes to outdoor winter gear, dog-sledders. These are a very unique item and I look forward to putting them through their paces and finding out what activities they work best at for me. I spend a lot of the time in the winter ice-fishing and camping in remote areas, and having the right gear is a necessity. Being able to take them on/off quickly and wear them with a variety of shoes/boots means they can fit a lot of situations. Slipping out of heavy boots at the tent, fish house, vehicle and having comfortable shoes on is what I'll enjoy most.

I purchased the XL. They fit over my 10.5 Vasque trail shoes with room to spare. They fit like a gloves over a size 10.5, 200g insulated pair of light winter hikers. I predict I will wear them with the trail shoes most of the time, as I can tell that with the hikers they are going to be too warm until its at least -20 below. Traction is absolute, even on ice. Hopefully they continue to impress me all season, and I can come back and give them the 5th star!

    Update: 2/15

Having put these through their paces all winter I have to say I am completely impressed and upped my rating to 5 stars. They made it through a -35F below camping trip with ease and the best part is in the morning when your boots are usually frozen like a brick, these were still flexible and easy to slip on over my light hiking boots. Grip and traction is just outstanding on any surface. Dragging a heavy sled over steep and snowy portages was easier in these boots than using snowshoes with crampon style bottoms.

These have proven to be a bit of a lifesaver for me as I have an foot problem that limits the types of shoes I can wear and I've yet to find a winter boot that I could function for very long in ( this is a problem when you live in Alaska and have lots of animals). These allow me to wear a very comfortable pair of shoes all the time, and have kept my feet toasty down to 7 below (F) so far. they are easy to get on and off, and are actually less unwieldy than a typical pair of Sorel's or other winter boots would be, so I'm a definite convert, even if I get my foot fixed. The only reason I would rate them less than a 5 Star is that the elastic that keeps the gaiter part up has already popped out of one of the boots and I'm hoping that it is a fluke and not an indication of future workmanship problems. Don't want to be without a pair the time it would take to send them back though. I wear a size 9.5 Women's shoe and the mediums work well for me. Even snowshoed with them today and they did great there too.

The snow and black ice on the asphalt was starting to be a problem when walking the dog. I have a pair of NEOS without the stabilicers. This made all the difference. I can walk comfortably and safely without the fear of taking a header on the sidewalks. They fit nicely over a workboot or a sneaker and are warm and comfortable. The boot is wide and sturdy, not for dancing if you know what I mean! Get a pair and you won't be sorry.
