I bought this scope for my son for his birthday. I really like it for the simple fact that it is very easy to use and set up. Not much to it and if you want you don't even have to use the tripod you can just put it down on a table if you want. As Far as the MAK 90mm Scope goes well its very good for beginners you can see the planets and the moon and spot out different star clusters and the images are very clear and sharp with this scope. Its Very light weight and portable and not to mention it takes batteries so no wires sticking out all over the place and stuff. it tracks great after you align it properly there is no Polar scope they have you do a rough alignment with a compass that comes with it. The only thing thats kinda cheesy on it is the finder scope because its a RED dot scope but my son got use to it and says it works great just have to find a target during the day and align the scope and red dot on to the same target and it works pretty good. Ok well I hope this helps out have fun and Clear Skies!!!!

This telescope has wonderful optical quality. Our first night with it we saw Jupiter's bands, the rings of Saturn as well as the ring nebula and some globular clusters (could not resolve individual stars).

To get this quality of optics at this price point Meade seems to have cut corners in other areas:
- The finder scope is barely of toy quality. Flimsy plastic that loses alignment at a touch. Mine also had a short requiring me to jiggle and tap it to get the light to work.
- The hand controller also had a short causing the left side of the screen to go dark occasionally. The right side would stay lit.
- The latitude lock bolt was bent on arrival.
- In slew mode the base make a lot of noise. This is somewhat expected, and there is a setting to slow it down so that will be quieter. Be advised normal slew mode will wake the neighbors.
- In tracking mode the noise is almost as bad. It would weeze and grind and the lights would dim. Perhaps a bad unit, but this was the behavior out of the box.

If you don't care about the noise and some plastic parts, the optics of this scope are nice. Ultimately it is just too noisy for how I want to use it and I had to send it back.

sorry my buddy, i bought this for my little niece and i don't know what she think about it. however, the auto star is little complicated and less than we thought it would be. price-wise is little expensive, the moon shot is clear but smaller than i expected and the whole telescope is easy to assemble and move. ultimately, it is nice if the person who ll use it is really interested in what happening up in the sky.
good luck

I got one three weeks ago, it was working for about a week, and suddenly it won't quit the welcome screen. I have visited the meade official website and tried to post an issue in the forum, but they haven't approve my registration yet. I also called the customer support, but they wanted a "confirmation order" which I already sent. And yet, still no reply...worest ever.
