The 1.5" is NOT the diameter of the hook. It's the length from top to bottom. These hooks are SMALL!

If you are wanting these for hanging coffee mugs, use a larger size. They will only fit small mug handles. If you have lots of custom, artisan, or otherwise large coffee mugs. These will not work. Otherwise the hook quality was fine.

Basic metal hooks. Work the same as any other. The thread is nice and deep enough for light weight items. I use them to hang necklaces and I have about four or five necklaces hanging from each one. Haven't had a single one fall yet. Only issue is that the threads are not perfectly aligned so after screwing them in tight some hooks protrude more than others, requiring you to unscrew them a tiny bit so they are even (OCD).

These were not load bearing. I planned on using them to hang a plastic tarp from its metal rings on my deck to keep out the rain, but even with a hook every foot, they couldn't support its weight and pulled open after a day. Should have gotten something more robust. Don't trust this to hold anything with substantial weight.

These are okay, but I didn't understand how the measurment went and turned out to be to small. I kept them and will use them for other purposes. A mug handle will not fit in the hook. A small coffee cup will.

Should have seen the other review mentioning the size. These are 1.5" from the end of the screw tip to the bottom of the rounded part, not 1.5" across (on the hook itself).
