So I read tons of excellent reviews on wodent wheels and I had been debating buying one for a while. Well it came to the point where I needed a bigger wheel for my syrian hamster. I finally got an 11" wodent wheel (not on amazon) and I found it for a decent price. So the day I got it I was so excited, I loved the look of the wheel. I put it in his cage and my hamster loved it. I had it free standing for the first two days. Well let's just say that the wheel is so loud that for the week that I had it in my hamsters cage I had to wear earplugs just to try and fall asleep. I even heard the wheel with earplugs in both ears. The wheel is terrible, it is the loudest wheel he's had (out of 5 different wheels). When he would run in it, the wheel made an extremely loud knocking/clanking noise. It literally drove me crazy. I had it free standing and hung it from the top of the cage and neither made it quieter. It is also a pain in the butt to put back together. I found a guy online who sells wheels called the Carolina storm express. The wheels are very large, the surface is completely smooth and they are made by him and they had excellent reviews and they were described as very quiet. I took a chance and bought one from him. I got it 2 days ago, took out the wodent wheel and attached the new wheel to his cage. This new wheel is the quietest wheel ever. The actual wheel makes NO noise. You hear the pitter patter of his feet but it's not loud enough to keep you awake. I love his new wheel. I absolutely hated the wodent wheel I got him. I'm returning it for a refund! Do not get a wodent wheel unless you don't want to get any sleep!

Let me preface this with the fact that my review isn't about the seller at all but about the product itself. This review also only applies for those looking to buy a wheel for sugar gliders. I'm sure this is safe for rodents (sugar gliders aren't rodents) since they won't have a semi-prehensile tail to grip the middle bar.

I bought one of these from the same "Pocket Pets" group that sold me my first sugar glider 2 years ago. They insisted that this was the best wheel for sugar gliders and told me they need to be able to exercise in a running wheel. I made the nearly fatal mistake of trusting that this was a safe wheel. For the first month, this was an absolute dream. Toulouse loved it and ran in it all the time. It was silent. One day I came home and checked on her as was my usual habit. To my absolute horror, I saw this strange, skinny, pink-ish strawlike thing sticking out of one of her beds...with a little bit of fur attached to the tip. THIS THING WAS HER TAIL. She wasn't alone for even 3 hours and this happened. She was so new to us that she would still try to nip and crab at my husband and I and I had to somehow get her to cooperate for an emergency vet to give her an antibiotic and pain killer shot, not to mention the amputation which had to wait until the next day. I later looked in the cage, desperate to find out what caused this horrible thing to happen. What do I find but blood and fur on the inside of the wheel. Her tail had gotten stuck and broken on the bar in the middle and in the wall of the wheel. Her tail had been broken and de-gloved by this wheel, sold to me by people I had trusted to have the health of my glider in mind. She had to have multiple amputations as there were complications. Gliders are notorious for their self-mutilation after an injury happens.Read more ›

This item did not come with all parts listed and necessary to construct it. It's missing all the parts that make it stick to the stand, and I only ended up with the front/back panels, stand, and running track.

Works great, my sugar gliders love it. They wake up and run strait to it. Make sure to oil it or it squeaks a little, after that you might not hear it when it's being used. My only complaint is that it could have been prebuilt in the box it was sent in.

We have a hedgehog and the only issue we have with the wodent wheel is that once my hedgie ran on it, she wanted nothing else. After seeing that, we purchased a backup in the event something happened to the first, but it's been two years now and our wodent wheel still runs strong. I suggest if it gets noisy to try oiling. We did that once in two years. I clean it every day with water and vinegar and it's been the love of my little hedgie.
