If you're buying a 6 inch grinder chances are good you're either grinding small items, sharpening tools, or taking care of other small, misc. grinding tasks. These are all things that I've done with this grinder and it's performed very well.

I didn't notice any heavy vibration or noise when powered on or in use. Minimal setup time and simple operation.

If you plan on grinding large items you may look at a grinder with more HP and larger wheels.
For small projects and household use I'm sure this will last a long time in my shop.

Once again, advertised horsepower is no indicator of the machine's energy. The Grizzly G9717 takes 10-15 seconds to get up to speed and immediately slows down with the slightest pressure on the wheels. A true example of you get what you pay for. I'm unmounting it, putting it on a shelf and buying a better quality machine.

This is not a professional grade tool. It is a very cheap underpowered unit, but worth the $30 it cost me to power a spare set of grinding wheels for sharpening. Old belt driven arbors without motors or grinding wheels go for far more on eBay. [NOTE: I see this is now selling for over $50; I would find something better at that price.]

The 5/8" wide grinding wheels that come with it aren't the greatest. The 1/2 inch diameter holes are made by filling larger holes and their surrounding imperfections with what appears to be epoxy. The holes are fairly accurately centered. The arbor flanges have oversized holes, so it takes a few tries to center them when mounting the wheels. One of the arbor nuts was tapped at an angle and I replaced it with a straight one (thank goodness it was the right hand thread).

With good wheels and a little bit of adjusting the grinder ran relatively true with almost no vibration.

As others have noted, it takes a while for this unit to reach full speed. Despite a 1/3 HP rating (???), even moderate grinding will quickly slow it down and force you to wait until the speed recovers. Its power is absolutely no match for a 1/3 HP Craftsman.

The tool rests are simply thin metal brackets attached to the thin metal wheel guards, and they flex easily.

I received what I paid for, but now that I have experience with Grizzly's standards I will not buy any more of their products.

Poor product. Gets hot very quickly. Bogs down if you try to remove very much metal at any time. It does spin up and seem to run smoothly, but that is about the only nice thing about it. Spend a few dollars more and get something better if you plan to do anything more than simple knife sharpening.

If you enjoy multiple extended conversations with customer support representatives or if you're a fan of hold music, this might be the grinder for you.

As delivered, the grinder will spin the wheels, but that's about it. I think it would bog down trying to put an edge on a spork.

If you need a boat anchor than this might serve, otherwise, you would be better served visiting your local Home Depot, Lowes or Harbor Freight and choosing the house brand alternative.

You get what you pay for. The machine is flimsy and cheaply made. One can make the wheels grind to a halt (hahahaha) with minimal pressure.

Work surfaces are difficult to adjust and don't feel strong when your work is resting on them.

Grizzly should not put its name on such tools. I hope to sell this, save up, and buy a real bench grinder.

Bought this reconditioned. Once you apply pressure to the grinding wheel, the motor loses power. Not worth my ttime or money to send it back. I will not buy off this seller again. You would think they would test their items before they sell them. Not a good way to get repeat business.
