Bought this to use as a wireless adapter in my homebuilt PC, which until recently I had connected directly to our router with an ethernet cable. I had to move this PC upstairs and on the other side of the house than our router, so I was a little skeptical that something this small could give a strong connection, but because it was cheap, I thought I'd give it a go.

Our router is a WNDR3700-100NAS RangeMax (link @ bottom), which I got about two years ago (sidenote: it's a pretty darn good router). My current connection from the WNA3100 adapter is hovering around ~120/130 megabits/sec, which I am more than happy with. I think (could definitely be wrong) that's close to the threshold that USB 2.0 can handle anyways, so this checks out in my book. Plus, I never see it - its in a USB port behind my tower - a much nicer solution than the external adapter I had been using (Netgear WN311B), which was a piece of crap anyways. I wholeheartedly give this 5/5 stars - a cheap, easy, and effective solution.

Other thoughts:
The packaging makes a big deal about installing the software from the CD, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to have netgear software managing their wireless connections rather than just having windows manage it. Just pop the adapter in, have windows automatically find a driver, and save yourself the trouble of dealing with 3rd party software.

I had no problem at all installing this device. I like the fact it has a small docking station with a USB cable that allows it to sit on top of my PC where I can see it and has better direct lines of sight with the router, plus I can see the activity light. I have no complaints about the software. I used the WPS feature (aka Push-N-Connect) to connect to a WPS-enabled router. A great feature - everything done for you. I also used the manual setup to connect to an outside network, and it seems pretty straightforward to me. Way better and way easier than my old wireless b/g device.

I installed this product with no problem but then the reception was dicey. Finally I noticed that on the Netgear opening screen there is a place at the bottom where it shows a channel number. I looked on my wireless router and it was set to default channel "auto". I changed that to channel 4 to match the adaptor channel number and everything has been great.

Works perfectly; easy to install & activate. I have had past experience with NetGear products, which was good, so I wasn't surprised that the product performed as expected.

After messing around for hours looking for the latest drivers to install an old wireless card on a Windows 7 system. Plug it in, let Windows find it, install it, and let you do something productive. Works with XP, XP64, Vista, and Win 7.
I'm not using it on a laptop or fidgeting with taking it out and plugging it in. I'm buying another one for a second system.

When I first tried this out I was in a room pretty far from my new wireless router, and when I ran speed tests I was very disappointed.

Using the Wireless-N USB adapter, my speeds were 6.61 Mbps download and 1.35 Mbps upload, but when I switched back to the built-in adapter on the 5-year-old laptop, my speed increased to 14.87 Mbps download and 1.31 Mbps. So from the same distance (fairly far from the router), the internal wireless-G, built-in adapter performed better. Standing there in the kitchen I repeated this several times, and every time the result was the same, the download signal was significantly better using the built-in wireless card than using this adapter.

I thought for sure I was doing something wrong until I moved the laptop significantly closer to the Router, and then the speeds went about the opposite with this wireless adapter showing a significantly better reception than the built-in wireless adapter.

So from my experience, and I've been taking this all around the house to check it out, when I'm in the same general area as the router, the signal using this is significantly better, but the further I walk away from the router the weaker it gets while the built-in wireless card can still keep up. This is not the result I was hoping for.

So while it functions fine, and I can use it in most areas, it doesn't appear to be a significant improvement, so I'm not planning on using it as a replacement adapter for my aging laptop.

What I do foresee using it for is plugging it into the back of a computer in a backroom where I can't quite get a wired cable to, and where I can't use a rage extender for because it's on a separate circuit. I don't expect it give me perfect results, but I am quite sure that it will be functional.

When I first picked out this particular USB adapter there was a lot of bad reviews on it and I wasn't sure if it was the right way to go, but my old Belkin N Wireless was going bad and I have a netgear router and absolutley love it, so I took my chances. The set up was easy, I just followed the directions and the set up was smooth and painless. It works well on Windows 7, I LOVE the docking station for it, it's so much easier to put up on the desk then to plug in and keep in the back of the tower. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new USB wireless adapter. Also I love the little blue light that blinks while surfing the net :). Thank you Netgear for another great product and Amazon for selling it ^_^.
