These are exceptional quality dumbells, better than any I have used at any gym.

Of course you pay more than other line of dumbells, but here is what you get ...

1. Even strong grip

2. Padding that will guard your furniture, floor & knees !

3. No smell

4. No chipping

5. Good looks

6. Lifetime service

So if you are a serious lifter and can afford the price, I would highly recommmend these dumbells.

I have bought 12, 20, 25, 30 & 50 lb dumbells. May add other weights later.

This weight is covered in urethane and has no bad smell. We like the coating so the weights don't 'crash', but hate that overpowering smell that you get with some of the rubber ones. This is a great solution.

I've used a lot of different dumbbells for comparison and these don't stack up to commercial grade weights nor are they as comfortable as the rubber hex dumbbells with only chrome for handles. The urethane handles are a nice attempt at comfort, but they don't sit flush with the rest of the chrome handle so it makes for an awkward rubber lip poking into my palm while trying to hold the weights. Luckily, I only bought these weights in 5, 8, 10, 12, and 15 lb between Amazon and W@lm@rt so it isn't terribly uncomfortable. The heavier the weight, however, the more uncomfortable the non-uniform handle becomes. Buyer beware. Good price. Good looks. Uncomfortable grip. Glad I didn't buy this style in heavier weights.

I use it mostly for curling and the weight is well balanced. After waiting a couple days, the strong chemical smell goes away. It's handsome appearing and durable. I have used it for a couple years and have yet to stain or dent it. It's also very comfortable to grasp when you use it for weight lifting.

Finally...after years of trying to find urethane-covered hexagon dumbbells with polyurethane grip inlays, I found these. Hallelujah!

I originally purchased 10 lb and 12 lb hexagon dumbbells with rubber grip inlays back in July 2008 10lb Hex Dumbbell Pair - Rubber Grip Inlay - Chrome Finish. I loved them so much that I wanted to complete my collection with matching 15 lb dumbbells, but if you click on that link, you'll see that they are no longer available (and haven't been for years). So, because I had to have a set of 15 lb dumbbells, I finally broke down this year and settled on a different set: Neoprene dumbbells set of 1-pair: 15 lbs (30 lbs total) - ²DABMZ.

However, I never liked this new set (I found them very uncomfortable to hold because the grip is too large for average adult female hands, and I even have larger than average hands for a woman), so I kept searching EVERYWHERE online for urethane-covered dumbbells with rubber grip inlays. FINALLY, after literally years of searching, these Cap Barbells became available through Amazon. They are a different brand than the ones I purchased in 2008, but the features are nearly identical. So, I gave away the ones I purchased earlier this year, and purchased these as replacements. Yes, it was worth $40 for me to switch (back) to this style of dumbbell :-)

Upon receipt of these dumbbells (which arrived in 1 day, I might add), I was pleased to find that they are just as comfortable to use as the dumbbells I purchased in 2008. It is not only the rubber inlays that add to the comfort of the grips (although that IS the best part), but also the shape and size them. I just love them. Great price (and free shipping) too!!!

I have two other pairs like these and five pairs with bare polished knurled stainless bars. This bar diameter is larger than most standard SS hex head dumbbells. The gripping surface is wrapped in a vinyl sleeve; it looks and feels like the urethane coating on the heads except with a slight diamond-pattern texture. Despite what another reviewer said, the seam is a non-issue; I can barely see it and definitely cannot feel it. The grip is firm, the sleeve is thin, and the bar is thicker. Regular knurled SS bars hurt my palms with their small gripping surface; these don't. These are a little more expensive, but I will buy more as I need heavier sets.

These are great. Not only are the ends rubberized which is great not to damage a floor but also the grip is coated with rubber. These not only cost less than what I could purchase a similar product locally at Big5 or Sports Authority but they are a better product.
