I just opened the box 15 minutes ago, and already removed three tiny, impossibly stuck screws from two hard drive cases. Let me rephrase that: the screws are no longer impossibly stuck, thanks to my new Vampliers.

To disassemble a hard drive case and remove the platters, you need a set of special, small screwdrivers. But inside two of the cases, a few screws holding the platters in place weren't just stuck; their heads became stripped because I was trying so hard to remove them, and they were between two grooves that made them hard to grab hold of. Traditional pliers and other screw removers wouldn't budge them. But within a couple of minutes, the Vampliers defeated them, and I was able to remove the platters.

If you think $35 is expensive for a pair of pliers, it isn't. This is no ordinary pair. In fact, they aren't going in my toolbox, because someone might take them! I'm getting my name engraved on them, then hiding them.

Hat tip to Wired magazine for the review.

I've had a set of these for a few months now. And while they rarely get used, they've earned a place in my toolbox. I fix and maintain my own motorcycles and fasteners will often seize up. These pliers do indeed help to remove them.

Now, don't expect these to be magical bolt removers that will remove anything with minimal effort, but they do work well when used as intended. I really wish I had these back when I rebuilt a handful of 40-year old Honda motorcycles, where about 1 out of every 3 fasteners would be stripped.

Overall, I do recommend these to anyone who maintains and fixes old vehicles and equipment.

While expensive, the Vampliers actually do what they say they can do. I am restoring a 1967 vintage travel trailer whose outside skin is attached with over 500 philips head screws. All are over 46 year old and well rusted. I was only able to remove about 1/3 of these screws with a screw driver. That leaves over 330 screws that can't be removed with a screw driver. Now IF one could drill them out, or use an extraction device (which typically DO NOT work), it would take over 15 minutes per screw. With the Vampliers I have been able to remove 99% of the stuck/stripped screws in about 30 seconds. This tool will save me AT LEAST 14.5 minutes per screw X 330 screws = 80 HOURS of painfully tedious work (not to mention all the damage that would be incurred during the drill/extractor process). Now I do not know how much your time is worth, but 80 hours of time savings for $35 equates to 44¢ per hour.

Even if this tool only saved you an hour or two, it would be well worth the price. Plus, think about it, how aggravating is it to screw around with removing a screw when you are trying to make progress on a project!

So, the price is actually cheap compared to the time and aggravation this tool can save you. While you might not have 500 screws to remove, even if only a handful, I think this tool does what a tool is designed to do: make it easier to make progress and reduce the hassle of a project. That's why it gets 5 stars. We'll see how long it lasts and how well it holds up with the 500 screw challenge.

I tried 3-4 different things to remove the two stripped screws that block my way in changing the light kit of my ceiling fan. All were cheaper options like drill and nail sets. All were returned after wasting my hours with no success. Finally I had to buy this considering the good reviews. Although I was very sorry for paying around 30 bucks for a pair of pliers I had no other option left. When it arrived I said to myself that I give it one chance and one chance only. If it does not work then it is going back tomorrow. I had a dilemma as well: I wanted the job to be done but I was still regretting the 30 bucks payment on such a simple device. Guess what It worked within seconds and removed both stripped screws right away. I can clearly say that if it can remove those screws it can remove any screw (considering that I had been drilling and hammering them which made them much worse). So They are staying. I wish they were cheaper so I could rate them 5 stars but that is the way it is. I recommend it to anyone with a headache about striped screws. One last tip: Be careful and gentle if you do not want it to scratch the wood. If you are careless like I was for the first screw you may end up minor scratches around the screw..

They have a very nice jaw design that makes holding, and turning screws, and nuts very easy. While I would usually use vice grips, or pliers, the Vamplier will be the first tool to try now. I use it to hold a nut on one side of an object while using a screwdriver on the other side. regular pliers had a tendency to slip off, and need a very hard squeeze with the hand, and even then it often slipped off before I got the screw out. Not with Vampliers, no more slipping.

Did exactly what I bought it for. Saves time extracting stripped screws on a Nissan distributor cap.
Nothing else worked.
