I bought this system and set it up in our bedroom as a gift for my wife. For the first couple of weeks it would make random LOUD popping noises every few minutes while playing any DVD. Then one day it just wouldn't turn on. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing happened. We unplugged it and shoved it aside for a few weeks as we were out of town. When we returned I was going to pack it up to get rid of it, and plugged it in just to see if it did anything. It fired right up and worked flawlessly for the next week. Then it refused to release a DVD. We tried everything, but it wouldn't come out. It was a rental movie, so my son removed the cover to get the DVD out (bye bye, warranty..) now the kids have hooked up another DVD player to it through the aux connection and use it to provide surround sound with the hdmi out to our projector. It is a mess, and as soon as I can replace it with a real surround system, I am throwing this one away. If it worked it would be a great deal, but I will ever again deal with RCA electronics.

I purchased one of these and it went out within a week. Out of the blue, it would make very loud buzzing sound and scare the crap out of everyone. I took that faulty unit back and returned it for a second one. In less than a week, the new unit done the same thing. I changed over my audio cables from optic to HDMI and it went another few days and then..voila, same crap. Save your time and money, this unit is absolute JUNK.

I originally used this as the speaker system for my computer. It was a bit iffy with dropping audio during low noise levels over the Optical port. I've recently upgraded for my computer.

HOWEVER,

Due to the fact my car audio doesn't work, I hooked this up to an power inverter and used it as my stereo. This system has been through ~150 inside car temperatures sitting inside my back window this summer, It still works PERFECTLY. I'd like to give 4.5 stars since there was a tad bit of warping near the DVD tray, but since I can only give full stars, I'll give it 5.

MAKES LOUD POPPING NIOSES DOESNT WORK RIGHT I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS DONT BUY THIS POS WASTE OF MONEY AND ONLY LASTED LESS THAN A MONTH !!!!

Got it as a Christmas present a few years ago and it had troubles from day one. I got the same loud popping noises that others have reported, so loud that I nearly soiled myself on at least one occasion. Eventually, though, that went away and it seemed to be working well enough. The DVD player was always finicky and the user interface is clunky, but it made noise.

A few days ago, I put in a brand-new DVD and it threw back ERROR. After opening the tray and visually inspecting the *new* disk, I put it back in and promptly got a NO DISC error. Same for three or four DVDs I have played in this infernal thing over the years....so the DVD player died.

A day later, I turn it on and yet don't hear any noises at all. Nothing coming through the optical connection from the TV, nothing off the FM tuner, and I couldn't check a DVD because the optical drive was kaput. Enough is enough, this thing is going in the garbage.

Please, prospective buyer, don't even consider this product. If it's a gift, tell the person to return it and get their money back if they can...if they can't, enjoy being frightened for a while due to the popping noises and then maybe have it work properly for a couple years before it dies.
