My aquarium is deep and hard to hand clean. most other scrapers just don't hold up. I have had this one for many months and have not had to change the blade on it yet, and I don't think I will need to for a long while. the catch is to raise and dry the blade before storing it. the handle is at a good angle, you just need to put a little pressure on the handle while running down you glass. the algae and Coraline that is on the glass comes off quick and easy. I have played with new blades to see how easy they are to replace and it's not hard at all.

I have a MagFloat algae scraper which consists of two piece that are magnetized. You stick on pice with bristles inside the tank and the other piece you use on the outside to glide it around. It works great on soft algae which is what I had in my tanks until recently I started getting this green stuff that is extremely hard. The Mag-Float wasn't cutting it no matter how many passes I took over it.

I was looking for something with a blade and this scraper fit the bill. It's not as high tech as the Mag-Float, but sometimes simple is better. It comes with three interchangeable and replaceable blades. One is a felt-like material, one plastic and one metal. The metal blade is not sharp so I really don't worry about it scratching my tank.

I started using the plastic blade which worked better than the bristles on the Mag-Float, but it still wasn't super easy and it wasn't getting everything off. I switched the metal blade and BAM! The green algae started flying out into the water. It only took me a couple of minutes to clean my 40 gallon tank.

Some of the knocks I saw on this before I bought it:

1.) The surface area of the blade isn't big enough so it takes a long time to clean a tank. I didn't find that to be true at all. While the surface area is quite small, you are moving it like you would an ice scraper on your car windshield. It took very little time to clean my tank.

2.) The handle is flimsy making it difficult to bear down hard enough to clean. I didn't find this to be the case either. I had some pretty touch algae and with the metal blade it didn't take a lot of pressure to get it off.

I would recommend buying this a little longer than you think you need.

For many years I have used either a) razor blades, b) plastic store cards, c) a variety of different scraper magnets, and similar devices to remove unsightly, annoying algae growth from my fresh water tanks. I ordered the 12 inch Kent Marine scraper that comes with a variety of blades and I am extremely pleased. The scraper is easy to use, removes any algae growth and similar biological 'patina', no matter how persistent from glass tanks. The blades are by no means dangerous and child safe, there is no danger of injury due to improper handling as there is with razor blades, and they are easy to clean after use. They also appear to be very durable and the device is very well made.
The only regret I have is that I did not order the 24 inch scraper or the one with adjustable handle. NOTE: this review is for the owners of glass tanks - I do not have any experience with the plastic scraper blade intended for the cleaning of acrylic tanks.

I wouldn't call this thing a "scraper" - the handle is so thin that you worry about applying too much pressure (for fear of snapping it) and the metal scraping edge isn't nearly as sharp as you'd need to remove calcified algae (which it purports to be able to scrape off). My 46-gallon bowfront had only average algae buildup and the "scraper" (yellow metal edge) removed surface algae but the glass still had base marks of where the algae adhered. I shouldn't have to change between the scraper and the padded head to clean the glass. The scraper should be effective enough to cut through the base adhesion material to the glass. In the end - in the two times I've used this - I've had to resort to using a razor blade anyway... which basically makes this unit a waste of my money.

Seems like I buy a new scraper every 6 - 12 months. I've tried aluminum shaft ones, plastic ones, hollow ones, and solid ones. Maybe I press to hard while scrubbing at my coraline algae in my reef? I don't know, but the always seem to snap and break. So far this one has not and it seems to flex less than the others that I have owned, so I think it may last longer. My tank is 30 inches deep and with the canopy on top it was very hard to get to the bottom corners without a step stool and a soaking wet arm. This is long enough to reach everywhere and sturdy enough to hold up. The attachments are pretty standard, I do like the mini scraper that was included. I think this is a very nice set!

I looked at many other options and this scraper is very durable and sturdy. I have a 100 gallon tank and use this to reach to the bottom of the edge of the glass, it does a great job and b/c of its sturdy shaft it will last many years. I definitely recommend this product.

Sturdy tool. Not afraid to put pressure to scrape off the algae. I like to use the felt blade, but usually end up using the plastic one since I can't get to cleaning that often. If I'm really delinquent or have the tough green spot, I use the metal blade. I;m gonna notch the plastic blade so that its easier to do the corners without touching the silicone.
