I've been using this type of stove-top espresso makers for 30 years and wanted to get away from the aluminum pots... just received this last night as a Christmas gift... this morning i made my first pot of coffee in it... the pressure valve blew out with the first pot... it is rather light weight, i was hoping for a bit heaver duty... I guess you get what you pay for... too bad, it looks good in the picture...

so it has now been a few weeks of use... I replaced the valve with one from an older pot I still had... I also changed out the basket with the old one... reason? I cut my self on the one that came with it... none of the edges on the steel parts are finished, just stamped out and assembled... about the 3rd day as I was making my coffee the bottom popped and now the pot sort of wobbles when setting on the counter... the steel is VERY light gauge...

i will be replacing this ASAP...

I ordered (2) SIZES, THE 4 AND 6 CUP models. They arrived in good shape, looking pretty sharp on the outside. It is plain to see they are the sort of design which is a product of examining something already established and making a production item that is a cheaper version of it. It is overall of lighter weight than its Italian prototype. The interior coffee chamber, the upper part, has a very narrow cyclindrical channel around the filter inset, which would be hard to clean if it needed cleaning,though it is not hard to rinse. the funnel/ filter is the weakest part of the device, it is not a 'perfect' fit. For me, it was a 'well-enough' fit.
The pressure relief valve sometimes seems to leak a little. It hasn't outright malfunctioned but it is one more thing for me to not be absolutely confident in.
The outside of the coffee maker is handsome and well proportioned. The hinged lid is a good fit.
What I really felt positive about the design was the handle, robust and well attached. This has been a defect of my more expensive Italian made version.
Overall impression. You get your money's worth. If you want something that will last you for twenty years or more and the company will still be around, go for the Italian orignal. Otherwise, this will work, it will last at least a few years, and if you forget it somewhere you will feel no loss.

*Post Script*
Well, I've given both sizes a lot of use and there is one more thing to report:
I use a hot plate, and when the espresso maker is good and hot and ready to boil, the bottom part, i.e. the 'boiler' bottom expands and bellies out just enough to make the unit very slightly tippy. This has not occurred on my more expensive Italian made unit, and is a design flaw in the Holstein unit(s).Read more ›

I don't like to be negative but felt I should mention our experience with this product.

We wanted to replace our aluminum espresso maker with a stainless steel one and this looked similar to a previous "coffee pot" we had years ago which we loved.

This espresso maker looks great but it is made of very light material. When it starts to pressurize and gurgles, the bottom of the pot bulges out and then it rolls on its now domed bottom (no longer flat). We have had it tip over at least three times spilling boiling coffee which could have caused great harm. The pressure relief valve is now spitting water.

We tried this pot for a couple of weeks but it is just too worrisome and we have gone back to using our stainless steel French press while looking for another stainless steel espresso maker.

I probably should have requested a refund but I didn't want the hassle of shipping it back, etc.

So, there's my two cents :)

I was comparing some of the more well known brands of aluminum expresso makers and I came across this lesser known stainless brand. I have been using it often and think it works great! My only recommendation is for people using a gas stove is that the handle can heat up so remember to use a mitt if pouring directly into a cup.

This is my third stove-top espresso maker. They get heavy usage from me and I couldn't live without one. Now, keep in mind that it is technically a percolator and doesn't really make espresso, but you can't beat it for great coffee flavor.

This design is sleek and has a small footprint, especially as compared to an espresso machine. This pot is attractive enough to be left out of the cupboard while not in use. It's also much easier to clean than a machine, however, the stainless steel needs to be wiped down after washing or it will show spots - as all stainless steel does.

You can adjust the strength of the coffee by adjusting the grounds-to-water ratio to suit your taste. Also play with the fine-ness of the grind of coffee. As I use it to make lattes at home, I use a fairly fine grind and don't fill the water chamber all the way up to produce a stronger brew. You will notice a few grounds toward the bottom of your cup of coffee, but that is customary and not intended for drinking.

My past espresso makers have all tended to "spit" a bit toward the end of the perc, which makes for a messy stove. The particular upward lip design on this pot prevents that from happening. Use care not to get grounds in the threads between the chambers to avoid dripping while pouring.

A couple of other notes: this handle really does stay cool enough to use right after the perc is done. I did receive the spare gasket - it was tucked into the upper chamber.

Highly recommend!
