At first I thought the reviews were bogus but it's not hollow or gouged out on the other side of the product photo, solid cast iron through and through and the weight has a good heft. Mine does not fall over when standing alone, but the best parts are these: it does a good job not just adequate as an opener, when you set it down between beers (or whatever you're drinking) the shape blends in and becomes a natural part of one's surroundings. That last part there seems passé but it really might surprise you how nice such a thing as visual integration is. Anywho, don't hesitate on weight or high functionality. It passes both those tests quite well.

Very durable and heavy duty, and opens bottles well. However, it does not stand up evenly. It has a felt pad glued to the bottom as if it is made to sit on a counter top, but it rolls to one side or falls back on its tail and leans. So a good bottle opener, but just an ok decoration.
