It came in a beat up gray hardshell case that was mummified in tape presumably to keep it safe in transit. Removing the tape took off a piece of the tolex adding to the damage on the case. The Tanpura itself was in fairly poor condition where the decorative trim was loose and has since fallen off. It's very quiet and doesn't hold tuning, and the bridge the strings are fed through was, at least on mine, jagged. All this and it doesn't really sound like a Tanpura.

Perhaps this is what I get for spending so cheaply

this is not a Tanpoura but how would anyone know unless yer an expert on these kind of instruments and its got 3 different names! its a Tanpouri... it sounds nothing like what I thought I wanted ... its a bitch to tune and won't stay in tune and I have a great ear! I found by putting pieces of cotton thread on the bridge you get that buzz sound which is also what I was looking for... but nothing like what I wanted or thought it would sound like.... a real Tanpoura (which is the drone behind a Sitar) is anywhere from $800 (FOR A CHEAP ONE) TO $1600.... and when I went to the post office to try to return it.. it would have cost me more money then what I payed for.... since it would be shipped back to India ..so guess what? i'm stuck with it... folks don't buy this item you'll be sorry if you do
