If your dog has staph dermatitis (vet talk for who knows what that rash is) try mixing the Davis Miconazole shampoo and the Davis Benzoyl peroxide shampoo with the Chlorhexadine shampoo and you will knock out bacteria, fungus and clogged pores in one shampoo. My dog's skin went from being red, itchy, scaly, with bald patches to having a soft silky coat and pink healthy skin. We shampoo frequently, but it is much cheaper than going to the vets office once an infection sets in.

My dog started getting recurrent skin infections. I treated him with triple antibiotic and each individual lesion would heal but they kept recurring. When we went to the vet he recommended this shampoo and the problem has not returned.

The brand is irrelevant, but the compound Chlorhexidine is one I know well. Working in a hospital we use it to sterilize the surgeon's hands prior to performing surgery for example where extreme cleanliness is paramount, I just didn't know it was available for animals. As a pet shampoo it effectively serves as an antiseptic to sterilize his coat from the bacteria that inevitably proliferate therein, which regular store-bought shampoos can not do. This is now my dog's standard shampoo, bathing him every two or three weeks.

IT IS NOT FOR ALLERGIES, unless you are confusing allergies with BACTERIAL skin infections, or if the allergy has lead to a skin infection in which case the bacteria will be killed but the allergy will remain.

We brought a dog home from the shelter. He has health issues as immediately after birth he developed Demodectic Mange (his mother had it). He is being treated but it will be a few weeks before he's healed. He's also on antibiotics because his incision site swelled after he was neutered. Poor thing smells terrible as he has developed yeast on his skin. You can hardly stand to be in the room with him. We bought several deoderant shampoos. I tried baking soda, a chlorhexidine mist, perfumes. NOTHING helped at all, despite several baths the first week. I bought this affordable bottle based on strong reviews on amazon and I'm not disappointed. The yeast smell starts to work its way back after a couple of days, but there is quite a bit of relief and I bought the mist to use in between baths. The shampoo is pleasant smelling and makes his coat (previously shabby and pitiful) look beautiful. It's a challenge to wait the 10 minutes, but I'm trying to apply it on the warmest afternoons and take him on a short walk while it does its work. I also ordered some benzoyl peroxide shampoo under the same brand, as another reviewer suggested mixing them when the issue is Demodectic Mange. Amazon has been much more helpful than the vet in figuring out solutions. This bottle won't last long, but I'll order more because it's very effective.

This worked immediately after the first use on my dog's oily, flaky, scabby skin. I've already ordered more because my dog is better off with regular use of this shampoo. I use it 2-3 times a week and love that my dog isn't itching and scratching and smelling as bad as he used to.

My dog (a yellow lab) has really bad skin allergies in the summer time. It was so bad the first year he had to go on steroids and his skin was bright red and he scratched himself constantly. The vet gave me this shampoo and told me to bathe him often. She told me to lather him up and then leave it on about 30 minutes before rinsing. It helped tremendously.

Now that I know he has allergies, I bathe him frequently with this shampoo to help keep his skin under control. He does still scratch but it is much more manageable and we have not had to go back to the vet. This is much cheaper on Amazon than at the vet's office. I also use the Davis Dog and Cat Chlorhexidine Spray, 4 Percent, 8-Ounce in between baths.

Another huge plus is that this is the only shampoo that makes my dog smell good. I have tried countless shampoos and he is always left smelling like wet dog. I was shocked the first time I used this because he actually smelled fresh and his fur felt really soft.

I purchased Davis Chlorhexidine pet shampoo, as I remember years ago using it to wash horses with skin problems.
My dog suffered from allergies for the first time in the 8 years I've owned him. It somewhat relieved the itching
and the skin is starting to look normal, not so irritated. Also, it is clean smelling, not medicinal, and
gentle to the coat. Recommended highly

I'm extremely happy with this product! My pitbull has constant staph infections which cause bumpy, rough skin & scaly, bald patches all over. Multiple rounds of antibiotics didn't get rid of it last time he had it. A vet recommended trying Chlorehexidine shampoo to be used weekly. After the 1st use I noticed my dog's coat was shinier & healthier looking than before. After the 2nd use the bumps went away & all his bald patches were healing & filling in. That was a few weeks ago & his coat/skin are still in great condition, I just bathed him a 3rd time & will continue to do so regularly. Much cheaper, easier & more effective than daily antibiotics!

Currently mixing Davis Chlorhexidine Pet Shampoo, Davis Benzoyl Peroxide Pet Shampoo and Davis Miconazole Pet Shampoo together and using them off label as a once a week* pretreatment for severe athlete’s feet and nail fungal infection. After hubby showers I put this mixture on his feet and then put his feet in baggies for a deep treatment for about 20 minutes. I then have him sit on the side of the tub and I scrub his feet and between his toes really well with salt to slough off as much dead skin as possible before using a pedi egg on the more rough patches. This is followed by prescription strength Nystatin 100,000 IU cream and a deep emollient moisturizer that I added a few drops of Turkish oregano oil and camphor oil to. This is the second treatment and his skin looks a lot better. There seems to be less cracking in the skin. And the cracks he has seem to be healing. I am also going to try painting his toenails with the gentian violet next time. The shampoos definitely have cut the odor wafting of his feet 100% and they are extremely mild to my hands and to his feet. They accept the added salt very well for the scrubbing part and while I realize that it’s the Nystatin 100,000 IU cream that is doing the bulk of the work on the candida the shampoo treatment is helping a lot.

* Hubby has grudgingly consented to this experiment and once a week was all I could negotiate, because it is time consuming.
