They are the greatest material...a soft silicone that doesn't crease or tear and holds nicely to our glass table for our daughters to color. The quality is terrific, I see why they aren't cheap. The markers that come with them are amazing...two quick swipes of the finger and you can erase your unwanted markings. My daughter was so impressed with this. They are clear also, as are the markers so when the drawing is done, it's transparent and looks really neap on our glass table. When you want them clean back to normal, a damp rag or paper towel does the job in a minute.
However, the soft surface seems like it would be a downfall when it comes to food. Seems like it would stain easily and possibly be such a gripper like surface that it's frustrating with food stuck to and underneath it. The product is soo neat as a coloring tool that I don't feel like the placemat part is totally necessary....but yes, as a modern design lover, I think they are much cooler than any other placemat and see why people want to use them that way.
They kept my 5 year old totally occupied for an hour which never happens. They also kept me occupied longer than they should have, so fun for all ages! ;)
