Sundown naturals whole food vitamins are larger than most vitamins that I've taken in the past. They were a little hard to swallow, and they don't taste very good. They also smell odd and make my urine smell bad. However, they offer a lot of nutrients per serving. One serving is 3 tablets, so a package lasts 30 days. However, the percentage of nutrients per serving is so high that I personally think taking one a day is an adequate supplement to a diet that is already balanced, so that's all I'll take. They digested well and I did not have any problems with them.

I get a lot of my needed vitamins and minerals from my food, but I like to use a multi-vitamin-and-mineral to make sure I'm getting enough. So I liked that you're supposed to take 3 of these tablets a day as I thought this meant that taking 1 a day would provide me with about 30% DV of the vitamins and minerals. However, the minerals are generally below 100% DV, the vitamins are usually above 100% DV, and the vitamin B's are in mega-doses of 1,250% to 4,167% DV. Even if I took only one tablet a day, that's still overdosing on the vitamins and results in much lower minerals doses than I expected. (I was not able to get a clear look at the Supplement Facts image when selecting to review this product, but there currently is a clear image of this information.)

Also, I liked that this tablet was made from whole foods rather than synthetically derived vitamins, but I'm not so sure about that anymore. There are some whole food concentrates in the tablet, but I'm now under the impression that they were added to synthetically derived vitamins to make the tablet. To quote the bottle, "This special supplement contains concentrates of whole foods..." And under the Supplement Facts, many of the "Vitamin _ (as _____)" lines read the same as my normal, not-special vitamin pill.

The tablet is somewhat large at 7/8" by 3/8" in size. I tried chewing it as an alternative to swallowing it, and the tablet tasted moderately bitter. It also has an odd "green" smell, though it didn't bother me. I might try grinding the tablet and adding it in smaller doses to my food in an attempt to avoid the mega-doses of B-vitamins.

Trying to devise an entirely natural vitamin from whole foods certainly sounds like a great idea. To me, though, it has an enormous drawback and that comes in the form of dosage. Every few years, I go through a kick where I attempt to source out some more healthful alternatives in my dietary regimen. This almost always includes a look at my vitamins. I really wasn't in the marketplace to go the Green route again so soon, but I had the opportunity to sample Sundown Naturals Whole Food Multivitamins. In fact, I tried both the regular formula and the one designed for Men's Health.

Most of the time, I take a fairly traditional one-a-day vitamin. When I got these Sundown Natural selections, I grabbed my current tablet to do a side by side comparison of content. For the most part, the Sundown Natural bested my current brand in almost every major category of vitamin and nutrient (in many cases by a whopping margin). In addition, the Sundown Naturals includes plenty of Green Source additions for those that trust in more earthy ingredients. So, in terms of composition, I have nothing against the Sundown Natural Blend.

My major issue (as it always is) comes from dosage. Because of the natural composition (I'm only guessing), the daily dosage rises to three tablets a day and fairly large ones at that! So what seems like a decent value in a 90 tablet bottle certainly decreases in value when you realize that's only a thirty day supply! In the end, it isn't about content or supplemental value. I like the convenience and affordability of the alternatives on the market. As someone who does believe in the value of Green Source nutrients (I regularly do a shot of wheat grass), I should be a supporter of the Sundown Natural brand. I just can't get past the three tablet dosage. KGHarris, 10/13.

Shipping was a little slow.

I've been using these for a couple weeks. I feel as though I have more energy now and just all around healthier. Love that these are all natural and don't contain any dyes like most multivitamins do. The only thing that bothers me about these is that they turn my urine bright green and make it smell just like the vitamins. It's kind of gross but bearable in my opinion.

Sundown Naturals has compiled a multivitamin tablet that contains a variety of vitamins and minerals combined with whole food extracts and enzymes. The supplement doesn't make clear to what extent the nutrients are coming from the whole food sources or via synthetic lab creations, aside from mentioning that the iodine comes from kelp. These do carry the vegetable/herbal taste of the whole food ingredients and the tablets are somewhat large in size. This product avoids any added sweeteners or preservatives, though there are the typical binders/fillers in small amounts (vegetable-sourced magnesium stearate, stearic acid). For anyone seeking a tablet-type multivitamin this product is better than most on the market, as it uses a variety of whole foods to complement the isolated nutrients and it avoids artificial chemical additives. However, I prefer supplements that are even more natural, without any binders/fillers or synthetic vitamins, so I would recommend something like Garden of Life Vitamin Code (capsules) or Raw Meal (powder) supplements to get the combination of vitamins/minerals and organic whole foods.
