I tried a 11-59 D'Addario set on my Agile Septor 7 string for flat drop tuning and the bottom few strings would just go in and out of tune. It drove me nuts. Gave these a try and its awesome so far. If you're like me, a set with a .65 bottom string has more tension than you'd like, especially if you bend strings a lot. I think these are the perfect fit for my guitar.

FYI the tuning I'm using is Ab Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb

Hope this helps anyone using this tuning as I never found someone who wrote a review using it.

I bought a couple of pairs for my 6-string, and liked them enough to get for my 7. I will first, go into small detail about my guitar experience, and then go into the pros and cons of these strings.

I have been a guitar player for 12 years, and a gigging guitarist for 11. I am not a shredder, but I write in lower tunings, and play a mean rythmn, with some occasional solos. I have tried nearly every brand of string, and consider myself very picky.

Pros: When new, these have a decent tone. They also stay in tune very well, and the sustain is amazing. The more play, the better they seem to sound. They have a really nice, warm sound once they have been broken in. They are also priced very well for the quality.

Cons: I am not a fan of the way they sound when freshly strung. The thick core almost makes it sound a tad muffled, when compared to the GHS Boomers. Where most strings sound super bright when first strung, these sound almost cheap. With that said, once they have been broken in a bit, the true sound releases. The other con, is since the core is thicker than most wound strings, you need some heavy duty clippers to cut through. My hand was a little sore using my normal clippers when I got to the bottom three strings. My last con, is they don't seem to last quite as long as the Boomers, or D,Addario strings do. I had one set break after three months, and another around four. Not sure if it's in my head though, because where most strings start sounding real muddy and dark before they break; these still sound amazing all the way to the breaking point.

Overall, I really enjoy these strings. I am still more of a fan of GHS Boomers, but these rank extremely close to them. Just don't go into the studio, or play a show until they break in first. I would recommend these for sure.

I play heavy metal, and these strings are PERFECT for it. The low end is extremely clear (you can hear every note during intense, technical palm-muting riffs and s***) and the high B and E strings can handle all kinds of bends and shreddy playing. 100% using these from now on.

I love the string gauge here for drop tuning. I play with my low B dropped to A and it works perfectly. They play pretty well and are bright enough. Not as much as I'd like but, it's hard to suit my tastes. The strings tend to break easily for me, which is a problem I have with all strings. I don't ever have a pair last beyond a week usually though and these last that long.

All in all, these is a really good 7 string set with a mildly heavier gauge on the low end.

I give these strings 4.5 stars - they're excellent, with one flaw.

First, the pros - fantastic sound if metal is your thing. I use these only on the Schecter that I use to play metal/hard rock. I tune to a modified drop A# and the lowest strings have great tension without being excessively tight. However, that may differ depending on what scale length your guitar has.

For the sake of context, it is worth noting that I was previously using Ernie Ball Cobalts before switching to these. I couldn't keep the high-output sound of the Cobalts under control - entirely too noisy, drove my whole setup way too hot, and the result was a gnarly, grindy sound that behaved like a demon-possessed anarchist and sounded bad no matter how I EQ'ed my setup. That, and they got really grimy after a week if you didn't meticulously wipe your strings down after playing.

The Heavy Cores were a wonderful breath of fresh air after years struggling with the Cobalts. They have a much smoother feel and the sound is much easier to keep under control - think of a lion with a royal growl befitting of the king of the jungle, and enough bite to crush any challengers to his throne. A long-winded analogy, yes, but that's how I think of them.

Now to my gripe about the Heavy Cores. They seem to lose tone & tuning stability sooner than I would like - a couple weeks of moderate playing and I'm changing strings again. I hate restringing more often than I have to, but the sound of a fresh set of these makes it worthwhile. Keep in mind that how often you need new strings depends on how much and how aggressively you play.

All in all - if you want smooth strings and killer sound, and don't mind restringing a little more often, these are absolutely worth a test. It also helps that they're not terribly expensive.

The key element here is the attack of the lower strings. You don't want elastic undefined sounds when playing this low, you need definition which is what you'll get from a .60 gauge if you're willing to train your fingers to play with a rather harsh string set
