I rebuilt my old 60 gl. single stage Porter Cable compressor that I call "Franken-Pressor" recently , adding larger 1/2" NPT "Black Pipe" lines , pump and a true 5hp. Continuos Duty Leeson Motor . This allows the compressor from getting so hot they go Nuclear and literally have a melt down (mine did twice in 10 years of heavy use).The compressor needed a check valve to relieve the back pressure on restart (without the valve my compressor (not a shop duty but great for home use) could not restart period (almost "Smoke-Checked" the Leeson with cut-off set at 125 psi). I finally figured out I needed a one-way check valve so there was no load on the electrical motor from the compressed air backing up into my twin cylinder pump , and this valve is rated to 450psi back pressure! Finding a valve was a bit of a chore as all lines were 1/2" steel pipe for greater volume . So far I've burned 2 pumps up and almost burned up my new Leeson 5hp. motor with those dinky 1/2" copper tube lines (WHAT A JOKE !) . I do body work etc. and I really "tax" it's capability . Yeah , I know,, I need a Two-Stage but My Ol' Man used to say "Wish in one hand and do something really "foul" in your other hand and see which fills up faster" ! ;-)
I initially found this valve on a well known Industrial Supply site . Came over to Amazon and they had it ! Much quicker delivery (2 days) through Amazon.com and cheaper too . I also ran the air charge inlet line to the bottom of the tank instead of right next to the air outlet for less moisture in my lines .Read more ›

I purchased this to fix my older Jeannie Air compressor that had developed a pressurized leak out the Overload release valve. I had been living for a few years with a rag wrapped around valve and vise grip clamped to minimize the leak but after being annoyed with it pushing oil out crankcase I decided to find a solution and this was it. I really needed the 3/4 thread into tank and 1/2 thread for air tube which is else where on amazon but even with the 1/2 to 3/4 reducer fitting still was cheaper and faster. Highly recommend

I purchaced this to upgrade my compressor from 3/8" compression fitting to 1/2" npt. Works great, comes pre-coated with pipe sealant. Has 1/8" npt outlet for unloader line. Holds 145 psi for weeks! Mine even looks better than the one in the above picture!

The unit is of robust construction. The internals appear clipped together which allows future cleaning or disassembly. The brass threads are well cut, and the sealing stripe is thick enough to work. Everything seals gas-tight out of the box. The plastic bits have no issue with hot gas and appear to be made of the right stuff.
The 1/8 NPT port on the side is easy to access and unobtrusive for those not needing an unloader hookup. I don't know why the picture shows an unthreaded plug sticking way the side.
The valve body is large in diameter and discharges to the side. As advertised, this model is best used in a tank rather than a pipe or fitting. It does, however, work just fine in any orientation.
At low flow rates there is an audible fluttering of the valve (no issue). It is a fairly flow restrictive design, but it seals well and does the job. I recommend this to anyone needing a 1/2 npt check valve for a tank.
