I purchased one of these after the third time my lint sock failed causing my utility sink to overflow. From the look of the product online, I assumed that it was going to attach to my drain tube coming from the washer (like the lint sock). After I received the lint trapper it became apparent that the bottom fin end is pushed into the sink drain. It was a snug fit and did not require any modifications.
As far as I can tell, it does a good job catching the lint. I don't think it is possible to catch every piece, but it's good enough. One issue is that all the lint will be captured at the very bottom of the trapper so you need to make sure the lint doesn't fall into your drain when you remove it for cleaning. And cleaning is as easy as can be.

Finally a lint trapper that works! After going thru those useless sock like traps which fall off and don't even catch lint a product I can plug in the wash basin and forget about. I just take the lint off once a week. Been using it for 2 months and well worth the money.

I LOVE this product, but I never considered it a replacement for the mesh sock thing that goes over the hose. I use both & they both catch lint. I found this soon after I had a major overflow because a sock was dropped into the tub that my washer hose drains into. The design of this guarantees that a small object will not block the drain. The mesh sock at the end of the hose traps the bulk of the lint. This does get some that gets through that first barrier. (I am surprised how much.) This "lint trapper" is a little hard to clean. I recommend cleaning with a rubber brush while it is WET. It's much harder when it's dry. But I only clean it once every 1-2 months since I use both methods. Used alone, I think this would not be the best trap. BTW I also have a drain that the hose could go right into, but my favorite plumber said using it without any lint filtering was asking for a clog & an overflow.

I've had it for about a year & it fits perfectly snugly into my tub sink drain.

Catches a lot of lint, and easy enough to clean. But, by making the point-of-capture at the bottom of the sink instead of end-of-hose, there's a lot of lint residue that builds up on the bottom surface of the sink.

EDIT: After using it for, hmm, a couple of months, replacing it with one that attaches to the hose. I tired of the accrued muck at the bottom of the sink.

Downgrading it to 2 stars.

This is the second purchase of this product. The first one lasted 3 years before needing replaced. This product works well. Just make sure you clean it out while it is still wet after the wash. It does not need cleaned after each wash. This product may have lasted longer if we did not clean it when it was dry before starting the wash. Now we clean it right after the wash has completed.

It works great! I don't have to buy the wire mesh on
a regular basis or have a added expense.

Excellent product and wish I had purchased this sooner. Fits sink as described. The lint comes right off when damp and is a perfect, long term replacement for the fabric lint traps.

After many visits by Roto Rooter to clean out my drain clogs in my older house that had metal drains, not PVC, it was discovered that laundry lint from the drain in the Laundry Room was eventually clogging the sewer line junction where the Kitchen & Baths drain pipes meet. This really works well and will astound how much clogging lint does down the drain. Would also suggest using with the Washing Machine Lint Traps..
