I bought this to secure my utility room door from my toddler's curiosity. Since the door is in my kitchen I something attractive for this purpose. This beautiful, and sturdy piece of hardware seemed to fit the bill, however I have two problems with it.
1. The screws that come with it are flat-head. When, after drilling pilot holes, I attempted to drill them into my doorframe, the drill kept flying off the head of the screw. A couple more careful attempts only yeilded a gouge in the doorframe from the drill. Then I tried to use a screwdriver, but the slot was too shallow to keep the driver in place while turning. Defeated, I then decided to purchase Phillips-head screws. After visiting several stores, including Home Depot, I had to settle for screws which were the same size, but not the same color. I thought I could perhaps color the screw heads with a Sharpie.
2. The latch does not hold. The hook easily slips up and out of the bracket when one attempts to open the door without unlatching it. So I now have a beautiful latch on my door that serves absolutely no purpose, save making little dents where the hook falls on the doorframe whenever my toddler opens the door.

I paid as much in shipping as I did for the unit, so returning it would be even more money down the toilet.

So if you're looking for an attractive piece of hardware to actually keep people from opening a door, avoid this pretty piece of junk.

bought these for a pocket door. Love them. Very durable and works great for us. Easy to install. Looks rustic
Update.. A few months later, 2 of them have broken in half, even though they looked solid and felt heavy. I am waiting for a replacement, but I am not sure of the quality. Also, if you yank on the barn door the latch will pop up and the door will open, so not very secure.

Bought this to secure a wooden gate. This would not stay hooked when any slight pull was made on the gate. This must only be for decorative purposes because for practical use it is worthless. Trashed it.
