I have a size 1 of Da Vinci 803 cats tongue and have found it a very versatile brush for doing various works. The size is comparable to somewhere between size 8 and 10 of the series 10 round brushes. In addition to the wash application that original designed for, it is also very good in painting the long straight objects like tree trunks. I can either use the narrower or wider side as I wish. In other words, it acts like a giant liner for painting wide lines, which I found is useful.

Many of my favorite master watercolor painters use very expensive oversized squirrel mops. I love the loose painterly effect they get with the mops but I haven't been able to mimic their technique. Too much water, too little control. This brush is the answer! It has the same soft, thirsty hair as the mops and it can easily lay down a perfect wash over a large area but its size and shape makes it much easier to control. It behaves like a flat brush but without leaving inadvertent hard edges... until you lift it a bit and, voila, a fine line or a controlled edge just like the mops. DaVinci natural hair brushes are top of the line and this one is no exception. I love the brush, it arrived promptly and the price was the best I found anywhere.

I didn't even know I needed this brush! I was taking a watercolor class and my instructor had one, then and there I decided I needed to try it. It carries a large amount of water to the paper and comes to a fine point which easily allows for putting in a wash around a subject. I'm very pleased with this purchase, wish I would have found it earlier.
