so much better than an Intermatic!

It was time to replace an existing Intermatic mechanical two-pole timer switch used for outdoor lighting. The yellow clock face had stopped turning and the seasons were changing, meaning the little set-screw selectors for "on" and "off" had to be fiddled with again. I visited the Intermatic site and I was not swayed by any of their products in this price range. I then came across this TORK astronomical timer switch and saw it had features that really made a difference to me. Consider how these features affect you:

- This product can act as an astronomical timer! It knows when the sun rises and when the sun sets, and it can automatically and daily adjust its "on" and "off" times without manual intervention. Now that I've received this timer I see a little more work has to be done for it to know when the sun rises and when it sets where you are. First you have to specify your latitude. A USA map is included that can help you estimate your latitude. I found it easiest to find my latitude online by Googling "what's my latitude right now". You're looking for a geocoding service that will convert your address. If you're in the continental USA, your latitude will be roughly between 25-degrees and 49-degrees, but look yours up! This timer accepts latitude as a whole number only. If you're in Monterey, CA (36.6-degrees) or Atlantic City, NJ (39.4-degrees) you'll have to round your latitude and this will introduce a little error. The real error comes from not telling where you are in your time zone. For example, Mobile, AL, and Dallas, TX, are in the same time zone but the sun sets more than a half our apart between the two. Once given your latitude, the timer suggests when sunset will be that day. It'll probably be wrong.Read more ›

This new one was easy to install even tho I am not an electrician

Bought this to replace old Tork 101 which appears to have been part of the initial build of the house back in 1994. The old one was hooked up to photo sensitive switch which also stopped working. This new one was easy to install even tho I am not an electrician. You can scan to get the product info including install video which was very very helpful. Love the fact that you can set this to turn on at sunset and turnoff at whatever time you choose.
