Originally purchased this item to replace a Monoprice 1x16 HDMI splitter that failed after 3 years. This one provided excellent signal quality, and did not overheat.

The unit is in a cooled network room, and powers 8 HDMI extension ports that run 3-4 TV's on average daily. The extension ports are remote-powered, and don't draw power from the unit.

The unit failed (power on, no signal, no lights on dash) this morning 11/18/2014 after original purchase in July,11 2014 and placed in service on July 13, 2014.

Our experience in several locations that have splitters is the cheaply made parts form China eventually fail due to heat/cycles. Of all units purchased (Monoprice, Genteck, OREI, Portta) - buy the cheapest unit since they eventually fail short of expected lifespan of a TV. You will eventually replace the unit, so minimize your costs.

The warranty of the manufacturer requires your pay charges for shipping each way, which exceed $30, so returns are not cost effective.

From the manufacturers website:
Once a RMA Number is issued, you will be responsible for:
1. Shipping both ways (it is recommended you ship with insurance, and double box your packages, Orei LLC is not responsible for lost or damaged packages).
2. Proof of purchase such as a copy of original receipt, which must have purchase date that falls in the warranty period specified in the Warranty card.
3. All of the accessories that came with the product package must be sent along with the main unit.
4. A check or money order of $15.00 USD payable to Orei LLC CORP for return shipping and handling.
5. The RMA number issued by our customer service rep must be written on the mail package, along with return address.Read more ›

The splitter works but the problem is that the audio output has to be the same for all devices. In my case I was splitting an HD 5.1 channel cable box to a tv and a home theater receiver. Since the tv doesn't support 5.1 input the splitter sent 2 channel stereo to both components. I got around this by sending the tv cable from the splitter to an hdmi switch then to the tv. The switch supports all audio formats so the splitter sent 5.1 hd to the switch and the receiver as well. I have a feeling that all splitters have the same limitation.

The splitter itself works fine. I had it connected to a Dishnetwork receiver and he output was to a 1080p and a 720p TV and the picture looked fine on both. Keep in mind that when you are watching both TVs at the same time, and their resolutions do not match then the splitter will output the lower of the two resolutions.

My biggest problem was the RF interference emitted by this unit. It causes so much interference that my RF remote (Next Generation 433 MHz) that I have been using for years) does not work when this splitter is plugged in. When I unplug it the remotes work fine.

I've had this and 2 1x2 splitters running for a few months now without an issue. They work excellent and are very small so it's easy to connect them and tie them out of the way. I have one tv going through the 1x4 by a 50' bluerigger hdmi to another 1x2 splitter then through 25' of bluerigger hdmi and the picture and sound quality have no degredation whatsoever. I have a total of 4 tv's running off that feed and they all function excellent. I have the dish Hopper/Joey system which is HD only, and to view HD video on ALL the tv's in the house is quite simply amazing! Well worth it. Any negatives? Well, the splitters have red led's which light up to indicate tv's plugged into them, the red led's can be annoying, but if so, cover them up with tape or position them so the led's can't be seen.

This splitter works well at creating two hdmi signals. Only problems are it runs very warm (make sure you keep it in a ventilated area), the power light is very bright, and it puts off RF interference. When it's idle, a small amount of interference can be heard through my battery powered am radio (usually tuned to 560). When it's working, it makes the radio unlistenable. I listed to talk radio often and this is irritating- I have to unplug the splitter at times. The interference isn't coming through the house wiring (the radio powered by batteries), and I checked the splitter power adapter on it's own- no noise. It's definitely the splitter itself. Just something to consider if you're looking at buying.

If you're trying to record PS3 or PS4 HDMI footage, get this. It will strip out that nasty HDCP that keeps us from recording. It is literally that simple. This even works with Netflix, which deploys HDCP on various non-HDCP devices, like the Xbox 360.

If your sole purpose of using this is to bypass HDCP, you can hook it up in one of two ways.

1. Run the console footage to the splitter. Then run an HDMI cord to the capture card, and from the capture card's output into the TV.
2. Run the console footage to the splitter. Then run one HDMI cord to the capture card, and one to the TV. I do it this way because I find it more simple, and you don't have to turn on the capture card to display the footage if you aren't recording.

You can also get Orei's 2 port HDMI splitter, but at the time being, that device has been sold out nonstop.

Oh, and I also like the on/off switch on this splitter. Other splitters turn on automatically, but I feel like they never work correctly and I'm always having to unplug them and plug them back in. This works much better.

All in all, this splitter works great. Whether you're using this to bypass HDCP or just to display an HDMI signal on multiple TVs, this is a good purchase. Although, PS3/4 users keep in mind, all HDMI splitters DO NOT bypass HDCP. I know Orei splitters do the job, and I've heard Sewell splitters also work. ViewHD, for example, doesn't bypass HDCP.
