I tried out my mil-spec Catoma IBNS tent without the upgrade fly. The wind going through the tent and dew kept me up at night which made me wet. Then the rain ruined my night camping. So no that I tried the tent out, I needed this to head out again. It seems to be built pretty well. The box says made by US veterans, which is awesome. I had a backpack and boots to my side inside the tent, now I can put them outside the tent but under the fly to keep them dry and have room to move around. The kit came with a bunch of nice plastic steaks and a really cool alloy rod that is held with a band in the center that seemed to assemble itself when opened. Pretty hard to describe. No instructions with them but printed them off the web and it was easy to figure it out. Both the tent and fly will easily fit in one large pouch in a backpack. I heard the zipper that open and closes the entrance to the tent was crappy but it seems to be ok so far. But if it breaks there is velcro to hold the door flap closed.The vents really impressed me. There isnt any pics of it but you open the velcro and there is a stand that pops up to hold them open, really good idea. In some places you might not need this but its a must have for me. Cant wait to get out this weekend with it. This will keep the bugs and critters farther away from me, not a inch from me with just the IBNS. Really smart design and the made in US.

I like this product, even if it seems overprices for the size. I had the bednet system for a while, and just used a poncho for the past 6 years. I pulled the trigger on this after knowing I was going to be out in the boonies during an upcoming monsoon season. It worked well, packs small, assembles fast, and has a small footprint in both square footage and height. The little vent at the top is almost pointless, I found myself waking up to the entire interior of the fly covered in condensed water, but not so much that it dripped on me, I just had to wait longer before packing it up for the moisture to get zapped away by the sun.

The tent stakes are nifty in how they are almost threaded like screws, makes them easy-ish to pull out, but harder to put in and theyre pretty brittle and break easy. I would upgrade early to nice aluminum ones with pull cords like these:

take up less space, pull cords, spares included.

i have a hard time fitting the fly into the little tan pouch the tent itself came in (in addition to the tent). I dont know if the complete set has a bigger pouch and I bought mine separately, but I keep the stakes and the pole elsewhere in the pack for fear of ripping the tent or pouch, and even still I fear for the integrity of the zipper.

I like the gear compartment on the other side, though I wish it had a way to hold that flap back for particularly nice days like the opening flap.

all-in all a much better setup than the poncho(s) I was using earlier, and great for those who want to pack light, pack small, and have a small signature in the field.

Extremely expasnive to be only a Flyrain, unfortunately the descirption was not clear for me(more likely my mistake) I though it was the complete tent with the flayrain, I open this pacakge moths after I bough so I didnt has a chance tor erturn it.
