*Update: I've also tried the pictured model (bought from another retailer), and it too suffers from the same problems. If you want a working MIDI-USB cable, stay clear away from this product. I highly doubt the other people who have success stories have done anything beyond pushing down keys. The real issues with the product come into play with anything beyond a mere up/down note messages - sustain pedals, pitch benders, modulators, etc are where the issues are. So if you're looking for anything other than simple key up/down recognition, look elsewhere.

Original review:
The product pictured is the 'AGPtek' MIDI cable (with the treble clef note), BUT if you place an order for this one you will receive some other generic MIDI cable with the word 'MIDI' stamped on its case.

Unfortunately it has been reported in numerous places that the 'MIDI'-stamped one this listing is really for does NOT work correctly, as has been my experience. All kinds of incorrect data is transmitted to the PC on this cable, resulting in random notes being played, no sustain-pedal recognition and other issues. However, the AGPtek model has gotten good reviews. I'd stick with them (if you can find a legit. source).

As far as CE Compass goes, the company was very good about resolving the situation - they refunded the cost of the product AND the shipping both ways, which is pretty important to me when something is incorrectly advertised. They acknowledged that the information on Amazon is incorrect too; however I still see the same unchanged listing (which will result in this same issue over and over).

I'd like to say Amazon is partially responsible here in not verifying what their 3rd party resellers are selling. This is the second time in a row where the product shipped was different from what was advertised.

So, the low rating is not so much for the company (who have great customer service), but rather the product and Amazon.

Received the product quickly, which was packaged in a plastic sealed bag shipped in a bubble-wrap envelope. The components seem sturdy enough - not particularly cheap, nor fancy. Read the directions in about two seconds (the type is MINISCULE), connected it, according to directions, to my Yamaha NP30 Portable Grand keyboard and my 2010 13" Macbook Air. Garageband immediately recognized an additional midi input. Selected a new track, and a grand piano voice, and bing, worked. No problems whatsoever. And I personally noticed zero latency. I also didn't notice any driver installation on my MBA. I want to stress there was no latency and no weird problems with updating drivers: it just worked right off the bat. I don't leave a lot of reviews, but perhaps this will help others who are skeptical of the price decide. The alternative, for me, was an obviously overpriced $40+ solution. Thanks!

After installing this interface per the instructions included to couple my digital piano to the Band In A Box software in my laptop, it didn't work. Over two weeks I went back and forth with Customer Service at Band In A Box and with the repair service which maintains my digital piano. The former advised that the interface is usually at fault in these instances, and with no defects determined present in the piano, this proved to be the case. The software people recommended getting an interface in the $30 to $40 range, which I did with totally satisfactory results. The AGPtek interface appears to be well made and had good instructions, but it did not perform in the application for which I needed it. The principle of caveat emptor definitely applies here---the low price doesn't necessarily mean something is a bargain.

When I connected this to windows 8 nothing happened. No device recognition. I didn't want to mess with finding the right drivers and whatnot (ideally this device should be plug and play and I shouldn't have to scavenge the internet for drivers), so I tested to see if it worked on my other laptop with linux, and it worked fine there.

Works without error, have my korg hooked up and everything is transferring flawlessly. Incredibly surprised considering the product was so cheap. Longevity is something i'm concerned with too though so we'll see, but it has been in use for about a month and transferred several times between synthesizers and computers everything is still working well.

I originally bought this cable 2 years ago when I needed an better bridge between my PC & Radioshack Casio 76 key clone. I was using Vista 64 at the time, so I had no OS issues and had zero problems with my audio software detecting the keyboard - it would come up as "USB 2.0 MIDI device" when in use with my particular software.

Pros: Cheap cost, versatile cable for older midi controllers, piano keyboards & interfaces
Cons: I have no complaints about this cable, it worked for me as intended.

Afterthoughts: I've read other reviews between this cable and other similar cables, the surprise for me, was reading about other users experiencing hisses, pops, background noise, unable to use their sustain peddles.

I reasoned that it wasn't my PC, MIDI keyboard nor the MIDI/USB cable - it was due to some audio software I was using at the time. Once I uploaded the file to an online audio distributor, it turns out that My not properly mastering the equalization, effects and volume in my tracks, contributed to underlying background noise, hisses and pops in production, that didn't show up later in post production/uploads.

I did have issues with my pitch bender and sustain peddle, yet, again; my software couldn't process the use of those pieces, so it wasn't a cable/hardware issue - for me.
