I was given a 6 month old Doberman who had been through multiple owners because he was "high energy, unruly, uncontrollable." That may sound like most dogs but this went to the point of aggression towards humans who attempted to tell him no, or off if he was on the couch. If I walked him and we came across another dog, he would lose it to the point of turning on me if I restrained him in any manner. I got bit twice. He needed help, bad. I could see he had tons of potential. He is a gorgeous red Doberman, his problem was that no one had ever put any effort into him. He had no clue how to act. Naturally starting this process at 6 months had it's complications. He wasnt a little puppy that could be pushed around. I started first with pinch collars, etc. This made tremendous differences but he learned really quickly that if he was off the leash he could do as he pleased, tearing up the house, chasing the cat. This collar fixed that almost over night. I've had him for three months now and this collar for a month. With careful use it is a miracle worker. You absolutely positively have to have a plan and work this in to how you train though. This alone will not fix your problems but it has huge possibilities. I can now take my 9 month old Doberman out in the yard with our free-range chickens and goats and he keeps his distance and follows me. I can make him lay down in front of them, walk to the opposite side of the yard, and call him to me, no problem. Note again, this is through careful training, not just shocking the dog because you get mad. 95% of the time the vibrate or tap button takes care of the situation. That's just a vibrate sensation on his neck, no shock.Read more ›

I've used various electric training collars for over 20 years. During that time they've steadily improved--more features, smaller sizes. Sort of like mobile phones.

(Prices, though, have stayed about the same for the better models, which means that inflation-adjusted they are a little less expensive as the years pass.)

About two weeks in, this model has performed well.

I initially thought that the vibration stimulation would provide a similar corrective effect to the audible tone warning used in other collars. Sadly this has not proved to be true. The dog (a Lab) completely ignores it. I wish I'd opted instead for the tone model.

Otherwise the gear is relatively easy to use and as effective as you'd want. The stopwatch-like transmitter fits nicely in the hand, and is clearly of high quality construction. You'll quickly learn which of the three buttons you want to hit without looking at them.

The only shortcoming is that the collar's on/off function is via a magnetic rather than a physical switch. This eats into the time required to turn the collar on and off, since you must bring the transmitter and collar together in a precise way to activate or deactivate the receiver. I suppose that this eliminates the potential for the dog bumping into something and accidentally turning off the collar, but it's still an inconvenience.

Battery life has been decent so far. We've used it daily, turning off the collar but leaving the transmitter on during the day, and have needed to recharge once, with another recharge likely coming soon with moderate usage.

Definitely a step up from anything at Pet Smart and similar chains. The only competition would be TriTronics, which I've also used and find exemplary.

I have been using the ET-400TS for over a week. First, I need to comment on an amazingly fast and smooth delivery by Amazon (via DHL) to China - the product was at my door within the same week which I have never had happen before.

First impressions of the unit are very positive, especially when compared to a budget remote training collar I originally purchased and promptly returned. The receiver is a nice and compact size and fits well on my Beagle - it feels rock solid in terms of build quality and even after being vigorously put through its paces by my Beagle in a forest and scratching at it once in a while, there is not a scratch or dent to be seen.

The LED lighting on the receiver, which is activated remotely, is very effective and ensures my Beagle is always clearly visible at night - whether I am walking with her in the city or in woodland. Very few competing products offer this and it is a useful addition.

The transmitter is a very refreshing design which happens to be highly functional and comfortable too. The flexibility of the momentary, continuous or mixed modes including a user-defined boost, is very useful and was one of the deciding factors in me buying the Einstein. The only niggle would be that I would prefer it in a more subtle color (such as the black ET-800TS), but bright yellow makes it difficult to lose if dropped (although there is already a lost transmitter function).

Note that this unit has a vibration function while the similarly-priced ET-500 has a tone function - I was a little torn in deciding between the two, but the ET-400 has a smaller receiver which made me go for this one.
