I was a bit skeptical whether this brush would maintain its shape and be able to hold color and water since I have gotten so used to my expensive sable brushes. I have been looking for less expensive alternatives and so far the synthetic ones have fallen short. This brush is FABULOUS! It holds an amazing amount of color and performs as well as my expensive brushes. I will be ordering the complete size range since I am REALLY happy with this brush!

I have painted with it and I do really like this brush BUT.... Take care when after you rinse it clean to make sure you hang it upside-down to dry and make sure it is STRAIGHT otherwise the brush will tilt to one side which is NOT good. If that happens DO NOT leave it like this, wet it again and re dry properly. Do not know if this is a flaw, probably not as others will do the same that are Sable or a Sable mix and the very thin synthetics, like the liners.

A great item to buy from the cosmetics area is the Benjabelle Mini Brush Tree holder, which allows you to hang your brushes tip down. There is one for thin handled brushes named above, which I would recommend highly and one for thick brush handles which I just bought. The original is more expensive and I think these other two are better.

Complete review after I paint with a few times but seems like an excellent brush and price is great! It seems well made and not factory seconds which I was worried about due to the price, which I paid $55 and some change for it. It has a nice really full belly but does need to be soaked to remove the stuff they put on new brushes to hold the hair in place until it is ready to be used. I forget what it is called.

The handle is solid and sits well and balanced in my hand. Has a pretty good point but I will be using this for washes or broad stroked on large paintings so that was not necessary. I think this usually sells for well over $100 even on sale, to the price on AMAZON cannot be beat!

If after painting I see issues, I will amend this review.Read more ›

This brush performs like kolinsky sable! I am a watercolorist and have used kolinsky sable (I own two of them); and honestly, this brush is just as good as far as I'm concerned. It is wonderful to have this large size for an affordable price. The tip creates fine detail and retains its shape. The large size permits me to wash over larger areas all with one brush. It has spring to it, it holds a lot of water that it delivers on the paper in smooth consistent strokes. In fact, I have been using this brush exclusively as of late. The wood barrel is high quality and the larger size feels good in ones hand. Most excellent and highly recommended. I can't say enough about this brush except that it is one of my best friends and I love it!

I like almost everything about this brush. I had researched it extensively, and I thought it would meet or exceed all of my expectations. I love the handle. The ferrule is fine. The belly, or the water-holding capacity is just what I expected. But I have never been able to get it to point like I see in the photos. If I could just get it to point, I would love this brush. But I can't get it to point, so I don't even like it. I can't use it without a point. Again today, I looked at the pix, and I continue to ask myself -- why won't mine do that? I'm so disappointed.

I bought one of the Cosmotop B brushes to try it out. I was extremely impressed with the way it holds paint and waterand the way it performs. I have actually aquired one of almost all the sizes since it is both reliable and a great workhorse brush. LOVE THIS BRUSH!!!!! I find that I reach for these brushes as much as my expensive kolinsky, if not more. Excellent price through Amazon is a big plus!

I have several sizes of the Cosmotop mix B watercolor brush because it is such a fantastic brush in any size. I wasn't sure if I would ever need one this big, but I am glad I decided to go ahead and order it. It makes covering larger sections really easy. These brushes hold a LOT of water and pigment, which makes them superior to just plain synthetic. They have a mix of natural and synthetic, so they give you the best of both worlds. They are also a lot cheaper than a kolinsky sable, so I use them contantly in my paintings. Buy them--you will be pleased with the quality and the performance. Plus the price through Amazon is a lot cheaper than you will find anywhere else.

If you can't buy "best" then I highly recommend these brushes, I was highly surprised. Read mixed reviews and took the chance on purchasing them; no regrets. I would not use them for washes but definitely for large areas. Allows for nice strokes to cover larger areas. Not sable but definitely my second choice in relation to affordability.
