I bought this 3 tier cake stand to present a wedding cake that had separate small, medium, and large layers to be set on the 3 platforms. The stand was affordable and looked presentable in the picture, and hence I picked it. It came with clear assembly instructions, was easy to assemble, and was very sturdy once assembled (although see below). Note that the 3 plates on the stand are clear molded plastic, not glass or thick plexiglass. Also, it's a bit hard to see from the product photo so I'll note that the 3 plates don't overlap each other above and below - they're fully offset so you can put things on them that are taller than the height between them. Overall the stand did turn out to be clean looking and presentable. For the formality of the wedding reception we draped it with white linen napkins, but I would definitely use it undraped at home for desserts or appetizers at a less formal party. My only complaint is that one of legs was missing the notch needed to stop it from slipping through the slot in the base (the bottom large silver circle you see in the product photo) that holds all 3 stands together to form a stable platform. I didn't have time to deal with it before our event so we jury-rigged it with tape and it worked great; I've since called Wilton's customer service, which was friendly and helpful, and they're sending a replacement leg now, no questions asked. So if you're looking for a nice-looking, sturdy, inexpensive way to present desserts or other things I definitely recommend this product.

I was surprised when I got the order. First of all, I couldn't tell from the illusion of a picture if the three tiers were together or separate. THEY ARE TOGETHER. AS IN CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER. Each tier fits into holes in the next and they form a stationary three-tiered set. The clear stand is plastic, not glass.

Everyone is on a budget these days so I decided to make my own wedding cake. Rather than a traditional designed cake, I opted for a desert bar with seasonal pies and a series of cakes that I baked at home. This tray beautifully displayed a large 2 layered carrot cake, a 9 inch blueberry cake and 7 inch raspberry cake. I was able to surround the cakes with silk flowers and the display was just perfect. 8 apple pies, 2 pumpkin and these three cakes were gone in a flash and my husband and I had our picture perfect presentation.

The stand was easy to assemble, clean and store. It will be used again this Christmas when I host dinner at our home.

I havn't acutually used this for a cake yet, but received it and have played around with the stand. Having owned the previous model the tall tiers stand this one has many improvements. First the feet now screw in instead of glue on. Second they screw on all plate sizes! Third it has the smooth edges making it easier to clean. Forth it has flat plates(the previous model had tilted plates). Fifth it has the two different size center post so you can use for cupcakes or cakes or both for that matter. Sixth the largest plates have plate supports so their is less of a chance of the plates cracking under the weight of a heavy filled cake. The cake corer is also better as it is just one piece now and has a slot down the tube to get the cake out and makes for easier washing! So far I love this thing and will be using it often!

I used Wilton's Floating Tiers Cake Stand for my brother's wedding this weekend. I LOVE the simple, discreet design, and the fool proof ease of use. The cake looked amazing. HOWEVER!!!
By the time the bride and groom were to cut the cake, we were horrified to see that all cake layers were tilting forward at an angle and about to slide right off the display plates. The stand was assembled properly and placed on a stable level table top indoors on a level concrete floor. There was no user error regarding sound location or use. I had no reason to worry that a METAL WILTON CAKE STAND would be inadequate. The only possible explanation I can offer is that this cake was triple filled (4 layers of cake and three layers of filling, for each 4" high cake), as might be expected for a wedding cake. It is clear that this stand would only be adequate for unfilled cakes with very little frosting or decoration. In 18 years I have never had that simple of a request for a wedding cake.

PLEASE MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THERE SHOULD BE A WEIGHT LIMIT FOR EACH SIZE OF CAKE DISPLAYED ON THIS STAND, both in your package instructions and on the web sight before customer purchase. I will be returning my cake stand to the store I purchased it from, as it did not function as advertised and is totally inadequate for the ongoing use I would expect for the purchase price.

First, let me state that this review is for the "Towering Tiers Cake Stand" from Wilton. Secondly the reason I'm giving the stand four stars instead of five is that it has a lot of parts and pieces which could end up lost and while Wilton made replacement parts for a time, they have discontinued them. That means if you lose the top nut, this expensive stand may end up being useless. That aside, this is a great stand. It's versatile since it comes with two different sized (4.25 and 5.5 inches) center pillars so you can change the height of each level. You have the ability to use any of the six plates as a single level stand, or you can use multiple plates to create up to a six tier cake. The plates range in size from 8 to 18 inches in diameter. Only the two larger plates have the holes where you screw in the feet so you have to use one of them for your base. It's easy to put together (there is a youtube video on the towering tiers stand which shows how to core a cake and put the stand together). I've only used the stand once so far(see the pictures I've uploaded to Amazon) and I was quite pleased with the result. Everything screws together for use which adds to the stability of the stand and then breaks down for storage. If I don't misplace any parts or pieces, I will be using this stand again and again for cakes, cupcakes or other desserts.
