I got this for my birthday from my husband and son, they are good boys! It was something we had looked at on the TV ads and kept thinking on and surprise, I did get one! I was so happily surprised with the way this contraption did absolutely everything they claimed on the TV ad, although we're not normally the infomercial buying kind of people, we wait for them to hit the stores to trek the "As Seen on TV Isle".

I always start off with a warning when needed, so WARNING, THE BLADES ARE FREAKING SHARP, My husbands already cut himself at least three times just barely touching them, always-always-always keep the blade locked inside the containers, the other pieces can float around your drawers or wherever you keep them, but the blades, keep them locked inside the pitcher/blender units. The Pitchers are also plastic, they don't mar or cut easily, but the blades can and will scar them up, so careful keeping your pitchers shiny and happy.

When washing, we place the blade in the dishwasher first, then the pitcher upside down on top of the blade, relative to which blade it belongs to, this keeps you from cutting yourself loading or unloading the dishes. You get the idea.. THE BLADES ARE FREAKING SHARP, AND THEY'RE EXTREMELY CLOSE TOGETHER SO IT'S VERY EASY TO CUT YOURSELF. It's like a saw, you don't grab it on the jagged side, and you don't grab scissors open and in the middle, so don't just go grabbing the blades here people, use the ends to handle it and keep yourself cut free.

Enough about the sharpness of it, because if you didn't notice, IT'S FREAKING SHARP, really now, moving on..

I have had the Ninja 1100 for two weeks, and am very happy with my purchase. I bought the Ninja because my Oster blender doesn't have the power to do a good job crushing ice for frozen drinks or blend frozen fruit and ice into sorbets or smoothies. My brother bought a Vitamix, which does an excellent job, but at over $600 is WAY outside my price range.

Overall, the Ninja does a great job. The blender is powerful enough to turn a full carafe of ice into fine snow. I take frozen fruit (peaches, mixed berries) add a little fruit juice, ice, Splenda and yogurt to make awesome fruit sorbet for dessert - it comes out the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. It also makes some of the best frozen margaritas ever - smooth and icy, but you can use less ice because it is so powerful.

If you read some other reviews, you will see that there are complaints that the blender doesn't always blend everything perfectly smooth. The important word here is "perfectly" - it does sometimes leave small bits of ice or fruit. However, if "great" is what you are looking for instead of "perfect", you should be really happy with this purchase.

This machine is even better than the infomercial. I have owned 3 blenders in the past year - all junk from generally good name brands. Well, 3am feeding for my 2 month old son and ESPN channel on the bug and I am watching the Ninja. I have used it to make smoothies, malts and even a banana bread and this thing rocks! Ice truly does turn to powder. Clean up is a breeze. I don't generally like to share my opinion on these things but after getting shafted 3 times, I really feel obligated to let you know that this is one machine that is truly wicked awesome.

As a blender, the Ninja is powerful and works great. However, the TV advertisements says it can be used as a juicer. Not only that, but it's supposed to be better than a dedicated juicer, because juicers will discard all the pulp... which is wasted fiber and nutrients you aren't getting. Long story short, every juice I've made in the Ninja, I'm chewing mouthfuls and mouthfuls of pulp in every sip. Not delicious. I expected it to blend everything into drinkable liquid... that's how they made it seem on the commercial. But this isn't the case. You could get something to strain all the pulp, and then it would be juice... but that's pretty much the same as just getting a juicer. Plus, I had to add about two cups of water just to get everything into a semi-juice form while it was blending. I bought this primarily as a juicer, and that was a mistake.

So, in summation... blending = good, juicing = bad.

I was thinking about a Vitamix but hesitant to spend the money. Bought the Ninja 1100 . I gave it 3 tries: smoothie, ice cream and iced drink - all are winners. I made a veggie smoothie drink with carrots, red lettuce, tomato and an apple for sweetness- used the 40 oz container with the 4 blade - came out very smooth. Next I blended 2 bananas, a peach, dash of vanilla and 1/2 Cup coconut milk; froze it in serving cups - no added sugar, but very sweet, and the consistency of a creamy sherbet- delicious. Lastly I blended brewed coffee, a bit of milk and a teaspoon of cocoa powder with a handful of ice - the ice crushed perfectly - no lumps - very refreshing. This is an esy way to make low sugar , healthy treats.
This is only my second day and I am so glad I made this purchase. Very easy clean up. so many uses, I will be leaving it on my counter. only one drawback and that is the larger container is quite tall and does not fit under the kitchen cabinet. A very powerful machine and more quiet than I expected. Can't wait to try the other blades. Has anyone tried to grind grains or coffee beans with this?
