These are good, relatively inexpensive AP's, but not perfect. Setup tends to be relatively easy, and it has excellent PoE support from anything that conforms to the 802.3af standard, meaning you can hang these in a remote area and send power to them through the Ethernet cable--you con't have to have an outlet nearby.

I've purchased probably 20 of these units for myself (two are running in my house) and various IT clients, and I have noticed a tendency for them to get "hung up" and require rebooting. The signal appears strong, but no data flows. A power-cycle resolves the issue for several days and then they get back into a hung state. Setting the device to automatically reboot in the middle of each night improves this substantially, but the unit still need to be occasionally rebooted mid-day. This may be due to wireless interference in the area, but for those cases, switching out the unit for a different brand has totally resolved the issue, indicating to me that these EnGenius units struggle in areas where there's a lot of competing signal.

That said, in all they're reasonably good quality, have acceptable range, and are a relatively average price for what they are. But if you're wiring up a building with 10 of these, you'll probably want to spend more and go with fully managed Enterprise units (like Ubiquiti UAP's).

Much easier to configure through the web interface than the Ubiquiti APs. Also, you can put each wireless net (SSID) on a separate VLAN and still use the default (i.e. untagged "VLAN") for DHCP and administration (I need this for the particular Router I have).

Been excellent so far - had a Netgear router doing the wifi in the house and was getting poor speed and drop outs pretty regularly (wasn't in a great location either). The EnGenius has been blowing the doors off in pretty much every corner of the house. Because of the PoE I was able to mount on a wall more centrally located. Looks professional and the results have been good. Couple of warning/tips below -

Default LAN management address of the device is 192.168.1.1 which will conflict if you have your router currently set to that address - if you do not you will have to reconfigure a PC on that address to range for initial setup

Once you get the configuration set just doing the accept on the screen you are on will not save the settings. There is a Save/Reload option that updates the changes on the device once you have your desired settings

I did eventually end up turning the output power down as I was picking it up about 3 houses away

In the past, I've always relied on a single wireless router to provide wifi for the entire house. Even with installing the wireless router in a central part of my house we still had a lot of dead spots. One dead spot that I heard about every night from my wife was our bedroom. She likes to watch streaming movies, etc and she really couldn't because the wifi was nonexistent.

I ended up running an Ethernet cable from my Asus wireless router up through the attic and installed the Engenius AP near the bedrooms and WOW, life (and wifi coverage) is awesome.

And now happy wife, happy life!

As a Network Engineer, this WAP was very easy to install. One of the best things I like about this WAP is that you can have more than 1 SSID (one for Home and one for Guest), configure its interface as a Trunk port so you can segment the guests with a much higher restriction than your home devices.

The gain on this Antenna is amazing. Putting this in a central location of the house gives me full bars upstairs, downstairs, and at my pool.

We have used a number of these for various projects and really like their ease of installation. The enclosed CD should be used to assist with the programing of the Wireless Access points, especially if you have more than one of these installed in the same location, which we frequently do in our larger buildings.

Please note that they all come with the generic IP address of 192.168.1.1, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the gateway of 192.168.1.1, so that the IP address at least should be changed to something different , such as 192.168.1.10. We usually change the SSID' s on them as well. They are also limited to no more than 56 concurrent users, so that might be a consideration when planning an installation.

We only use the supplied PoE adapter to program the access points initially and then connect them to a PoE switch, such as the Netgear GS108PE
NETGEAR ProSAFE GS108PE 8-Port Gigabit PoE Plus Switch with 4 PoE Ports 45W (GS108PE-300NAS)
or something similar to avoid having multiple injectors in the usually small space (with limited wall mounted electric outlets) that one is given to install these things. Using a PoE switch also helps to avoid having to place multiple external power strips to hande all of the PoE injectors along with their associated patch cords as well.

I bought this when my uy Ubiquiti UniFi Long Range Access Point died after 40 months of continuous operation. I would have simply replaced it with the same thing, except it wasn't in stock on Amazon and I couldn't wait two weeks to have my home wifi back up and running. This AP seems to work as well or better regarding signal strength. I'd give it 5 stars except the setup can be a little cumbersome due to having the too common default address of 192.168.1.1, plus it's not set by default to Tx/RX at the full power 29dBm. The setup is simple (browser based - no Java controller app like Ubiquiti uses); potentially not very secure since not HTTPS. But once it's setup, it seems to work very well, and the signal strength throughout the farthest areas of my house are the same or better than with the UniFi LR AP. Throughput with about a dozen heavily used devices connected is great. The ethernet port is 1Gbps, and the "Kit" included the POE injector. Installation is quick and looks clean and compact on the ceiling. Came with firmware ver. 1.6.2. Upgraded firmware to ver. 1.6.43 after setup. Seems stable but haven't been running it long enough to really judge.
