I own a 2010 Subaru Forester and I needed to replace the belts A/C, P/S ,Alt, the first belt has an adjustment bolt for loosening and replacing the belt, but the second belt is a "stretch belt", this means you WILL NOT replace this belt without some special tool [I tried] or getting it replaced by a mechanic of your choice. After doing some research, I found the Gates 91031 Engine Tool, ordered it and after going over the instructions ON LINE , the ones that come with the tool kit are interesting.... just some pictures. I installed the belt in minutes, went on slick as a whistle.
Would I buy this tool again? YES.
Would I recommend this tool for other capable mechanics? YES.

I was told at the dealer that my belts needed changing, saying they were cracked. I opted out from them and then looked online. I picked up both belts (Gates) and this tool after looking at some YouTube how-to videos. Worked like a charm on my 2009 Subaru Forester. The original belts did not appear as cracked as some I have seen on my other cars, but it was time to do it as I just turned over 100,000 miles! You will need a 22mm socket to turn the main pully. I was considering buying a breaker bar, but a pipe on the end of a 1/2" socket did the job.

not really much to say, if you are looking at this chances are you already know what it is. If you dont, it is the tool that will help you get the self tensioning belt for your engine on. It definitely makes it a very easy task, just slip the took on, turn with the wheel with a wrench and it helps the belt slide over the wheel into place. If you are going to be changing your belts yourself, I will say get this hands down. It will make the job much easier and take way less time

I watched the video on YouTube a few times and then also had it playing on my iPad while under the hood of my 2010 Forester 2.5, while putting on the Gates K050344 stretch belt. The video taught me to turn the crankshaft manually which also helped with seating the other non-stretch belt which I replaced at the same time for the alternator.

bought, youtube required. attempt 1 stretch-fit. one ring not on. single use belt. Take to repair shop. Repair shop doesn't have tool. Go home, get tool, come back, Give to them. They don't know how to use. I show them how to use. Turns out, they didn't even have correct belt. Never mind repair shop dudes. Order new belt. Girlfriend is really starting to nag about not having A/C. Get new belt. Try to install. Complete pain. Able to finally install correctly. Never want to do again. (but probably will have to)

Its not really Gates' fault that stretch-fit belts suck and I have no idea what the benefit is besides making you consider taking it to the dealer (and weight saving, i guess?), but this tool is extremely annoying to use and could be made easier.

Used this to install the stretch belt on 2009 subaru forester xt. It's not simple, but it makes an impossible task possible. Don't hesitate to buy this tool if you have the 2.5l Turbo and plan on replacing belts. Make sure you check out some videos to help make sense of it, and the belt will eventually go on.

The new belt easy to install using the tool, but the engineers and instructions leave off one important detail when putting the tool on the bottom pulley. The metal clip goes into one of the hole inside the pulley, that's what holds it in place when turning the pulley. They say just put it thru the pulley. On a 2008 Impreza it very hard to see the holes you'll have to feel around and find them.
