This stick is similar to the Cutter stick that seems to have been sadly discontinued. Despite having a higher DEET content, the advantage of the solid sticks is that if, like many of us, your skin reacts with pain or burning feelings to liquid DEET products, the ability to really control application thickness with the stick means actually much less DEET in contact with your skin and basically no pain for most of us. (That pain isn't a true allergy, so it isn't more dangerous to use this, either.) I can only really use the sticks anymore for that reason--all of the DEET-containing liquids or aerosols make me feel like my skin is on fire until they dry. And as someone mosquitoes LOVE and find super attractive, I will also say it's very effective (being DEET); non-DEET products never repel anything from me, because I am too tasty. I also have sensitive skin and get dryness, dermatitis, and acne pretty easily in response to skin products, and I've never had any of those reactions to this kind of stick. Plus you can fly with it in your carry-on! Highly recommended.

I use this for when I go hiking or camping or when I foresee a lot of time spent outdoors. This insect repellent works wonderfully BUT you should not use it with sunscreen that has oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is a chemical in most sunscreens that absorbs UVB rays but also makes your skin more absorbent. I do not want my skin absorbing that much deet. I wouldn't recommend using a deet product with oxybenzone. That said, this insect repellent is super effective against most bugs and I highly recommend it.

Deet works and 30% last all night for me. A couple of swipes up and down the legs and arms (paying attention to the ankles, knees, wrists and elbows), a quick pass around the neck then spread it around with my hands. No over-spray on clothing or whatever gear/stuff happens to be behind me. The stick seems to last "forever" but I bought 5 - car, bike, kayak, umpire gear bag and one for a friend.

I used to use the pump bottle type until one leaked in a gear bag and ate my earphones.

I don't like DEET. I don't like the smell, the feel on my skin, or getting it on my hands. I don't like breathing DEET vapour from sprays. DEET melts plastic and stains clothing. I don't like DEET, and yet... DEET is all that really works.

The Repel stick makes DEET usable. I can put down the exact right amount with no overspray and no messy hands. It feels like deodorant on the skin, not at all like the typical greasy bug spray. Thus product gets two thumbs up.

Love this Repel insect stick. Cutter used to make one and stopped making it. I was so glad to find this stick. It's easy to carry, it's not messy going on, and it really works. I use it walking late in the day in my neihborhood, and when we go hiking. The only thing that is not perfect is the stick won't stay up as you roll it on, and you have to hold the bottom. A minor inconvenience. The Cutter stick always stayed pushed up But I highly recomment the Repel stick insect repellent. I love the service from Amazon. I ordered the stick one day and it came within two days.

I purchased this for a recent trip to SE Asia, but had to stop using it because it caused a serious rash. My arms and neck looked like I had chicken pox. If you use this, I recommend very sparing applications for a few days until you know how you respond.

We just got back from a trip to the Cook Islands and are still scratching our many mosquito bites, literally from head to toe. This product DOES work, but only where it's applied. I expected I would be able to "zebra stripe" it on my exposed skin and it would keep the mosquitoes at bay, but that was not the case. I had many chances to observe the little critters as they homed in for a bite. They were very persistent and would take their time buzzing about until eventually landing on some exposed skin between the stripes (before I smacked them of course!). Even worse, the mosquitoes could easily bite through our shirts, and this product does not go on clothing like the sprays can.

So, in order to get good results, you need to apply this stick over every square inch of skin that's either exposed or under thin clothing. It is difficult to impossible to see after applied, which is good, but this also means it's hard to keep track of what you've already covered. Also, it is small, so it takes a while to get covered...like painting most of your whole body with a 1-1/2" wide brush, using a paint you can't see.

It does a decent job of not feeling too sticky after being applied, but it's still noticeable. We also found that after swimming in the ocean and a few other occasions, that a thin white "crust" formed on the treated areas. 2 of us applied it daily (moderate coverage) and the stick was almost entirely gone after 6 days. Like other reviewers, we found it frustrating that there was nothing to hold the stick in the tube, and were were constantly pushing it up to use. It even popped out once, landing on the ground and getting dirt embedded in it.
