Great Product!

I think the idea of making a stainless steel pail is great! Not only is it easy to clean but the smell is well contained. I can even use my cloth diaper bag with this pail which was a major selling point for us! Cost is more than we wanted to spend, however it has proved to be worth it. Another plus, Amazon's shipping was super fast, especially considering the size of the thing!

*In response to all the Negative Nellies out there...this product does not have magical properties. Of course it's going to smell when you open it, it's been holding dirty diapers! What matters is if it contains the smell when it's closed, which it DOES. (And which plastic ones do NOT.) Additionally, this is not a Mary Poppins bag! It's not bottomless, and it requires to be emptied on a REGULAR basis. Quit being lazy and empty your can before it gets so full you have to rip it out. These are NOT PRODUCT FAILURES, or reasons to mark a product down, deterring other people from having a great product, these are your own problems. If you are expecting magic in the real world, you have bigger issues than what to do with stinky poo.

*Also, to help those of you claiming to have trouble with opening the sliding door...you must apply gentle downward pressure, THEN slide it open. With one hand, it works perfect every time.

*This is coming from a mom of two, one who is no longer in diapers and the other a toddler with stinky boy poo. And who has previously owned plastic diaper pails that were less than satisfactory in the smell and clean departments. I hope this helps the sensible people out there.

Great Pail, but be CAREFUL with the plastic piece holding the bag in place and the rubber "gasket"

I have 10 month old twins - We have had the pail for 10 months and it is getting 'double usage'! I am happy with the size, the fact that you can use your own bags, and the lack of smell (unless it has just been opened - which of course, it will smell). But please be careful with 2 things: 1) the plastic piece that holds the bag in place broke at the hinge - the hinge does not stay in place now. I don't know when it broke, if it was rough handling when taking out a 'too full bag', or if it was just made improperly; and 2) the circular rubber gasket going around the edge slowly started to come off. I tried pushing it back in place, but after a couple of weeks the whole thing just came off. Luckily, it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. I just wish someone had told me to be careful with the plastic piece holding the bag in place... (or I wish that Ubbi would make a more solid hinge...)

UPDATE: I am loving Ubbi's customer service! They saw the issue here on this post, and just sent me a reply telling me that I can email them requesting a newer/stronger plastic bag holder. And apparently there is a video to show you how to put the gasket back in place. I am changing my rating from 4 stars to 5. Thank you Ubbi!!!!!!

UPDATE: My twins are now 18 months old and the pail looks and functions the same as it did the day we bought it! This is a great pail! (Again, it smells when it is open - but when it is closed we don't smell a thing.) We have no regrets spending the extra money on it - 18 months of double usage and still going strong!

Great product! No more bags tearing!

We purchased this product even though many reviews commented on the bags getting torn when emptying the pail. The most helpful comment was one about Ubbi's great customer service and potential replacement part. So upon purchasing it, I contacted Ubbi's customer service over email. They responded the same day and did indeed offer to send a replacement part because the new models (with the smooth part) would not be out on the market until January. I didn't want to have to wait until then. I got the new part within a week, and had the hubby change it out. It is just a snap on piece so it was easy to fix! It has no jagged edges that could tear anything! (See the pictures I added to the product images that compare the old and new parts). I am still waiting on baby to arrive, but I will update this review once I really get to using it and then again when I have some seriously stinky diapers to deal with. So far though, I couldn't be happier with it. Great design (sleek, light weight, and small footprint) and wonderful customer service!

UPDATE: I've now been using it for about a month now with newborn disposable diapers and still love it. It opens and closes super quickly (less than a second with one hand once you get the hang of it). I am breast feeding so I know the smell isn't as bad as when on solids but there is literally no smell. Our dog who can find a clean sock in the laundry pile has yet to stop and sniff if! Hubby says it's super easy to change and doesn't have a problem with it ripping (we use white Costco drawstring bags). Trash pickup is twice a week so that's how often we change it and have not had a problem with it filling up. I can tell that it's really full by the end of the fourth day, but that's perfect timing for our trash schedule.Read more ›

Looks great and working great so far!

I was worried about spending the extra money for this pail after reading the 1 star review, but I couldn't bear the smell from our plastic pail any longer so I figured it was worth a try. It was either this or I would have to run downstairs to the trash every time I changed a diaper.

Also I read about the money savings buying regular kitchen trash bags vs. the bags I was having to buy now (which by the way are ridiculously expensive. On Amazon 30 bags cost 16-20 bucks but we're buying 50 Glad scented kitchen bags for 9 bucks. So in the end the Ubbi will probably save us money?). I also thought about buying a steel trash can but I looked on Amazon and a decent one cost about 50 bucks and none of these have the rubber seals that the Ubbi claimed to hold in the stink.

Anyways to the part you care about, we're 4 weeks in now with the Ubbi and all is well in poopville. My daughter's room no longer has a lingering port-a-potty stench and I'm not running up and down the stairs all day long.

I think I understand why the person who gave it 1 star was complaining, it's true that the pail does stink when you open the sliding door to put a diaper in but it's no worse that the pail we had before (which actually I thought was worse because we got the stink and I had to push the diaper in through a tight hole which was disgusting with the messing poops. You know what I mean when you get it on the finger tips, ugh). Also, I've got the thing down to a science. I wrap the poop in the diaper and make as tight of a ball as possible. Sit it on the top of the Ubbi pail until I'm completely done changing my daughter. Then after I'm completely done I set my daughter down take the diaper and quickly slide open the lid, drop the diaper and slide it closed.Read more ›

Good diaper pail

Does seem to keep smells in pretty well. Would be great if it had a foot petal to open it. Looks great! It is a pricey pail, but it seems like it will last a long time.
