I bought this portable battery as part of the Duracell powermat package. No wires are necessary to charge the portable battery. Just position it correctly on the powermat, which means matching a symbol on it with a symbol on the powermat. In practice, I just put the battery down until I hear a beep that indicates it has been positioned correctly and the indicator lights on the battery flash. The battery has a magnetic attraction when you place it on the powermat, so it doesn't slide around. If you don't feel the magnetic attraction, it means that the battery is upside down.

The portable battery works great. It has an on/off switch so you don't drain the battery when not using it, and two built in retractable cables: a micro USB that I use with my iPhone that has the special Duracell case, and a regular iPhone adapter that I can use for my wife's iPhone. The battery has four lights to indicate how much of a charge is left when you are using it, and how much more until a full charge when you are charging it.

I keep my iPhone and portable battery on the powermat overnight, and when I go to work in the morning I put the iPhone in my pocket and the portable battery in my briefcase. The portable battery has let me continue using my iPhone at all day meetings. It is extremely lightweight, unobtrusive, and very easy to use. The battery can also be charged with a micro USB cable when you are away from the powermat.

Being able to wirelessly charge the portable battery is nice, but having a lightweight compact battery that I can bring with me to extend my use of the iPhone is even better. Yes, you can buy separate portable power units ( I own a couple),but none of them are as light and compact as this portable battery for daily use as opposed to travel needs.Read more ›

Portability - easily fits in pockets with no issue and the built in ipd and micro usb cables make it even better
Convenience - can be used for yourself or you can be nice and share the extra power with friends while on the go
Price - less than the price of a spare battery

Dislikes:
Comes with a really short usb charging cable

Bottom Line:
This has saved me from scrambling for a wall outlet and spare charger plenty of times and lets me stream music and videos on commutes to work without worrying about draining my battery. It makes a great gift to any friend who has a smartphone and is always complaining about needing a charger or having to shut down their phone to conserve the battery.

I use this on my kindle fire and my android phone. I used to run out of charge and be tied down to one spot while charging or not be able to use the device but, now I can keep reading, playing games, surfing and talking.

POWER ON THE GO!! I love these portable batteries, which can be charged from your computer, direct AC, or on a power pad, which charges two at a time. It has been a lifesaver when my phone runs out of power and there are no outlets to be found. I carry two in my purse, one in the car, and have others charging at home. I gave two to my grandsons. Mine are compatible with iPhone 4, 4S, iPad 3... but I'm pretty sure they have others on Amazon, also, for those who have other generations. Be sure to check compatibility. They would be wonderful to have when there is a power outage and one has no way to charge one's phone. Mine are a treasure!! Oh, yes...it will also charge my mophi. For the instant power one gets, these are more than worth the great price you get on Amazon.
