We've owned our Lasco 48 inch tall fan for 8 months. It is the quietest fan with the greatest amount of air flow of any fan we've owned or encountered. Not sure why others are reporting problems. We move it easily. It takes up less than 1 square foot of floor space, and collects and throws air from ground level where its coolest. The round cage type blades are ultra quiet at low speed; and even on lowest speed, it puts out huge amounts of air. The remote and the ionizer option are both a plus.

When I ordered this fan I didn't realize exactly how tall it would be, but I love it being that tall!! It is very silent and was easy to assemble from the box. This tall fan sends out enough airflow to cool my entire living room. I have it placed under my AC vent since the vent does not send enough cooling to the rest of the room and now I have a cooler living room.

All together, good product, easy to assemble, and very quiet operation.

While this fan cost a few extra dollars, I really wanted one that would circulate my dorm room considering it has no A/C. And I have to say... I am quite impressed.

While I am not in my dorm yet (not until August), I do not fear the Iowa summer quite as much now. I currently have the fan running on its highest setting and it's really not all that noisy at all. I think it is very comparable to a standard pedestal fan on its medium or medium-low setting. The only thing you really hear is the wind movement, the motor is absolutely silent. In regards to the wind speed, I have to admit its not going to make long hair go completely horizontal but it feels a lot like a nice, strong (consistent) breeze from about five or six feet away. But what it lacks in speed it makes up in volume--- this thing is pushing literally a pillar of air at me. It feels incredibly nice.

I would recommend this is your looking for something to circulate a large room while looking attractive and not making too much noise. If you looking for something to emulate going downhill on a roller-coaster though... I'd look elsewhere.

I bought 2 of these for my business. I teach an exercise class and we NEED good fans. I liked these because they wouldn't take up a lot of our dance space and would have air blowing over most of a persons body since they are 4' tall. While I thought they were a little wobbly, they worked nicely. One of the bases did break as it often got moved around in the closet of the hall I rented, but I used them the whole first summer and they were great!

Over the winter I moved into my own center and brought these with me. Now that it's summer it's REALLY HOT in my center because I don't have A/C yet. So, I got out the fans. They worked for about 1.5 weeks. Then one of them stopped responding to any of the buttons. It works if you plug it in, but it doesn't oscillate and you can only turn it off by unplugging it. Only days later the same thing happened to the other one.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed considering how much I paid for these fans just over a year ago. I guess in some respects I'm lucky that mine lasted longer than other reviewers, but that's probably due to the fact that I only used them for an hour or two a day 5 days a week last summer and not constantly.

So, I need new fans, but I'm not buying these again. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but it's a shame these didn't last because I really loved them at first.

i expected better durability out of this fan. It died after just 3 months, and had flow problems from day one. I tried contacting Lasko but got no responses.

I bought my first one right after summer of 2006 and use it mainly to move air around in the room (not necessarily for the cooling effect) and it's worked great. When summer 2007 hit, my extended family loved my fan so much, they all bought one. I bought a second 'spare' as well. My 2 are working like a charm and quiet as a mouse, and as far as I know, theirs are working as well... so that's 4 total working great.
Hopefully those who got defected ones were able to exchange them.

All 4 of ours were from Sam's Club.
