I tried this product on a dog that I was working with that barked excessively in the car, and it worked very well! I like how this does not blind her, but it prevents the over-stimulation of the outside world. My recommendation would be to help your dog have a good association with this product before just throwing it on and going out for a drive though! You should put it on while feeding treats, and then take it off when you stop feeding treats. Pair the two together until your dog gets the connection (you'll be able to tell because they'll WANT to have you put it on). Then, wait a second before giving the treats, and so on and so forth. It would be a shame for a dog to hate this product being on even though it results in significantly less barking. Some pair this with the thunder shirt as well with great results!

We got this calming cap as a recommendation from our veterinarian behaviorist. Our dog gets extremely excited around other dogs and new people, including the waiting room at the veterinarian's office.

After spending 3 1/2 days feeding all her meals with the calming cap to help desensitize her to it ... and associate great things (food!) with wearing it, I had her wear it at the veterinarian yesterday afternoon. She was 2 feet away from another dog without reacting - no pulling or whining to get to the other dog. She could see, but only minimally. And she was significantly calmer while the veterinarian did his examination.

It was awesome - to have a calm, manageable dog at the vet rather than "crazy dog"! We'll be using it quite a bit for car rides, vet visits, and are working with our trainer to see if it would work for calming her down on walks.

I truly recommend working slowly and carefully to desensitize your dog to wearing it, to prevent him/her from struggling to remove it all the time.

My English Shepherd likes to bark at a lot of things when he is riding in the car in the city, which is every day: bikes, people wearing hoods, skate boards, on and on. The calming cap blurs his vision enough, I think, that he doesn't bark at all in the car because he doesn't see the stuff. Makes riding 100% better for everyone.

My poor little Sheltie is so very over stimulated and after using this the first day, I saw a huge difference in her behavior. She is calmer, quieter, and seems much more relaxed overall. This is a life saver!! Thank you!

I wouldn't say it calms my dobie, but it sure makes it easier to drive with him because he can't quite see if that moving figure is a threat or not. (Without it, he freaks out at the sight of any pedestrian or bike).

All dogs are different, some won't respond to this but I'm thrilled that our high-strung German Shepherd does! We tried every type of holistic anxiety remedy in the car and at the vet's office but nothing worked. Once we put this one him, he calmed down and relaxed, instantly. Over six years later it still works like a charm, we call it his kryptonite. Turns our GSD from a barking, whining anxious disaster into a relaxed and calm dog. We can't live without it.

We just ordered a second one for the female JRT. We live in an area with high winds. There is also a lot of snow. The Dog's eyes get pummeled when we walk them. They don't like the " doggles" they don't fit right.

This calming Cap also protects their eyes from much of the flying snow and awful wind, and both dogs wear it with no fuss.
We did work with treats to get them used to it.

We ordered this first time for our male JRT. Young 3 yr old rescue who is very leash reactive, sight reactive and has anxiety when car traveling. We read about it in a training book called Feisty Fido, leash reactive dogs.
When we fitted it on him he accepted it readily. Came when called for his treats. Did not try to tear it off. We are slowly getting him acclimated to wearing it. Will be training accessory when private trainer arrives for learning how to meet dogs while leashed. We are hoping it will also help with car travel.

Our little dog has severe motion sickness that would make her salivate and drool, and eventually vomit. A prescription drug helped with the nausea but then she had a fear of the nausea that was triggered by the motion of the car, and she still drooled like a fountain and was visibly uncomfortable. We put the cap and initially a Thundershirt on her at the beginning of a long trip, and the change was instant. No drooling at all. We offered tiny pieces of treats to her right before and right after putting the cap on and let her sniff around to find the treats, then she was fine with wearing the cap and lay down on the seat to sleep. Soon we were using the cap without the Thundershirt. I don't know how the cap would work in a crate, since she initially did try to paw it off. She figured out that she could see through the mesh but she'd kind of ask to have the cap removed after an hour or so. We'd take it off and let her look around and move a little bit, then put it back on with another treat or two and she'd lie back down. No problem taking the cap off at rest stops and then putting it back on. Hopefully she will be able to have it off for longer and longer periods, but even if not, we know she can travel happily with it on.
