I fix up old Ataris, such as completely refurbishing inside and out then selling them. I've been looking for some time now for a good burnt orange paint to fix up the switch bordering trim and the joystick directional markers.

I too, like the reviewer before myself, found this product through an AtariAge forum and decided to give it a try, especially after seeing the 5 star review.
Well it arrived and it is VERY orange, much brighter than the original and definitely much more on the orange side as well. The original is more of a burnt orange, almost a couple shades away from brown.

Anyhow ...after application it does indeed look nice and breathes new life back into the system and joysticks.
However the paint, being oil based, does take a length of time to dry.

The "problem" that I have found ...is that it rubs off very easily and just the action of wrapping the consoles up in bubble wrap takes the paint off the trim. So you can only imagine how easily and quickly it will rub off of the joysticks which are handled so frequently. I find this to be a real shame because it really does look nice, if only it would stay that way.

I've thought of maybe covering the paint with some kind of a clear sealant or epoxy to keep the paint from rubbing off, but haven't tried it yet.

UPDATE: I bought some polycrylic and gave the paint jobs two coats of it. It dried hard as plastic and seems to be the perfect solution to my problem. I have coated my own joysticks and use them daily. So far its been two weeks and no sign of wearing whatsoever. The paint earns another star for letting the poly coat stick.

Pen worked great! I used it in pink and white on black mugs for a bridal shower and they went through the dishwasher perfect. I did bake them at 350 for and hour and let them heat up and cool off in the oven. They were dry before i did that of course. I got pretty nice results too. I'm no pro at mug painting but they looked fine.

The amazon description says it contains xyleM, however on the marker, it lists xyleNE, these are completely different things. xylem is plant tissue and xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon which can be seriously harmful to one's health if inhaled or upon skin contact (google: xylene harmful). I am very disappointed as it was exactly the color I needed and upon a test on metal, did very well adhering and looked good (not that glossy at all). However, this paint marker is very pungent and if you have ever felt sick from using the older white-board markers (which I always did), I would recommend NOT buying this product if you have other alternatives.

Way to broad if the 'fine' one or the extra fine unless you plan to paint automobiles or something very big. they should describe the width of the markers instead of using the relative words, "extra fine", "fine", and "broad".

I haven't yet figured out what I will use it on. But I opened the cellophane wrapper and now it is mine.

I got this product because someone on AtariAge.com recommended it as a good match for restoring Atari 2600 Joysticks. Turns out it works quite well. It should work out well to restore the orange trim on the original Atari 2600 console as well. It's a nice durable paint that applies to plastic very easily with the pen.
