I'm using this modem with an Airport Extreme Router Base Station hard wired and then wireless connected to an Airport Express as a booster upstairs at the other end of the house. Everything was very simple to install and worked first time tried. this unit works great as a stand alone dsl modem with the Airport Equipment which is the Best as far as I'm concerned. I read other feedback that was negative and seems to be the only time someone gives feedback, so i wanted to set the record straight so others can use this modem & router combination. Go for it it's simple actually and you will love the Airport Equipment, very strong signal, i probably don't need the booster but bought them at the same time so I'm using them.

My five year old DSL modem recently crapped out. I had purchased a Cisco E4200 wireless router last year, so all I needed was a simple DSL modem. Most out there are integrated modem/routers, and as you would expect, cost twice as much as a simple DSL modem. This Netgear DM111PSP (Broadband ADSL2+ Modem, with DSL phone port, ethernet port to run to your wireless router, and a power plug) is the ticket if you already have a solid, reliable router. I got mine for less than 50 dollars at Staples, plus they had an online coupon at the time so it was 42 and change. Since it was in-stock at the store, I was back up and running in less than two hours (quick 15 minute setup).

Spent 3 days talking to Netgear before I gave up. If you get this keep in mind it was manufactured in 2012 and Netgear will not provide support until you register your product and provide proof of purchase. Netgear customer service is like talking to a brick wall, except the brick wall would be more useful.
I'm not router and modem savvy but can follow instructions, if the manufacturer can't even figure out how to configure the product..... Well enough said.

Well, I give this five stars only because it's the modem that worked with dslextreme. I was hesitant due to some of the reviews over heat and that sort of thing. Those were old reviews so I hope those problems were fixed. The good thing is that is just as small as the d-link even though the box is bigger. Maybe a bit thinner too. Only time will tell how well it performs and I will update accordingly. I was also surprised that it came with some small feet to position it vertically which I prefer to minimize heat. My router also stands vertically so I am really liking these because they are also just working without any problems. It also came with the smallest (better prong placement) power supply which also doesn't stick to the side of the UPS and instead the wire faces up or down which makes for a slimmer profile and which I prefer anyway. Again, the main thing is that it worked with my isp which uses the ATT lines in my area. It does take a bit of work to get these things working correctly, but once it's done, it's fine. You need to get that information from your own isp though. Why aren't there any more modems is beyond me as not everyone uses cable.

I've had no problems with this modem. I did a manual setup since I am very experienced in networking (am the in-house network admin at work). Use AT&T high speed DSL service and ended up having to alter the VPI setting based upon a call to AT&T's Tech Support (i.e. from "0" to "8") for AT&T's network. Currently use it in bridge mode with my Netgear 3700 N 600 wireless router handling login and DHCP service for my home network. Have the unit standing vertically and also purchased high speed DSL compatible phone cables to run from the DSL filter to my surge protector and then another to the modem, itself.

I think some of the problems discussed by other purchasers are the result of a lack of knowledge of how to configure a modem. I never use the wizards when installing these kinds of devices. In most cases, these folks should simply pony up and pay a technician or their Internet provider to have a tech install the thing correctly.

As far as overheating is concerned, I have owned numerous Netgear routers over the years, and we use numerous pieces of Netgear equipment at work, as well. Rarely, if ever, do we have a problem. While it is possible for a defective unit to overheat and fail, much more often it is the result of incorrect installation. I've seen people stack things on top of electronic components, install them in unventilated spaces or simple allow the vents to become covered in dust. Any of these things will cause any electronic device to fail, whether it is a computer, modem, router or home stereo/home theater receiver, blu-ray player, you name it.

I had to replace my modem as the one supplied by my telecom quit, & I did not want to pay rental fees for a modem supplied by them. It's difficult to find individual modems now as they are combined with routers in one box. This Nerzero was fine, easy to install with just a few entries needed from my telecom company.

We picked this up when we switched from cable internet to DSL. We are using it with a NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router and are not noticing any difference in speed; although the DSL is slower than cable, the bottleneck is probably the wifi router and not the modem or the internet provider.

Setup was very simple; once I got it connected, it was a simple matter to switch the router to the new modem, and we hardly noticed anything. The difficulty was in setting it up as the installation disk did not run on my MacBook. Any web browser in any OS can access the modem's controls, but after entering all of the information, it still wouldn't connect. I was on the phone with my internet provider for hours as we tried different things, until one technician suggested using the installation disk. Fortunately, I have a Windows partition on my Mac, so I was able to run the disk that way. The application guides you through each step and prompts you to enter the configuration settings, and once I had done this, the modem connected immediately. None of the information was different, but apparently the modem "prefers" that you go through the installation program rather than entering everything yourself.

The reason I deducted one star from an otherwise outstanding product is that the installation will pose a problem for anyone who doesn't have access to a Windows computer.
