I was ready to return this item because I didn't think it worked. I was using it to connect an external microphone (Rove SmartLav) to my iPhone. I visited the StarTech.com website and saw in small print that it's important to connect the microphone FIRST before connecting the extension cable to the iPhone. Otherwise the iPhone won't recognize the external mic.

I needed to extend my headphones (with mic) for when my laptop is docked, and this did exactly that. If you look closely at the male end of the cable, you will see that there are three black insulating bands, instead of the normal two. The kinds with two black insulating bands means that there are three separate wires in the cable, for GROUND, LEFT and RIGHT. But with the fourth wire that this cable has, you also get MIC.

I purchased this to enable the occasional use of my Square card reader while my iPod is enclosed in an otterbox-like case by Griffin, which otherwise prevents the reader from seating fully into the headphone jack.

I actually wanted something much shorter, and didn't expect this to be so long, but that's my fault, so the 5-star rating stands. Works (and is as long!) as advertised. I simply use the cord while it's rolled up, and shove it in my desk drawer where it spends 99% of its life.

I purchased this extension cable primarily to allow me to use my iPhone headphones as a computer headset for Skype and similar services (I have a Lenova Thinkpad with an integrated headphone/mic jack). It works perfectly for that purpose. However, when connected to my iPhone 4S, the advanced features (volume, play/pause, etc.) do not function. This doesn't cause a problem on my PC, however, as those features never work there. As a straight extension of sound and mic functions, it delivers perfectly. The connections are solid, and cable doesn't feel overly thin or flimsy. Overall, a very good buy!

This does not fit into many female receivers. I ended up trying to grind mine down with a dremel and eventually it was destroyed trying to make it work. This was very very disapppointing. Don't but for a Turtle Beach px22 extension cable to the headset. I tried to mend mine where a puppy bit the cord and ended up stowing the headset and buying a new cordless one instead all because of this jack that stinks. Great engineering guys. Pay attention to the standards in use next time. It's 100% wrong.
