I always thought the great thing about bananas was that they came in their own biodegradable case...
That being said, this item was purchased as a gag gift (long story). For me and my purposes, it gets five stars.
I do want this review to be fair though, so I have taken some aspects of the Banana keeper into consideration
for those out there who may actually want it to store a banana.

A few pros of the Banana Keeper are as follows:
- It's tough. Like, way tougher than a plastic banana case needs to be. You can drop a banana from a roof
and it would be fine with this thing around it.
-It snaps shut securely. I can't see it ever opening inadvertently (even after being dropped from a roof).

The cons of the Banana Keeper:
-The counter-point to the pro about it staying shut securely is that a child may not be able to open this thing.
Perhaps it will ease up after a break-in period, but if you're buying this for a young child, you should see
if they can even operate it first before you pack their food inside it... unless you're funny like that.

call me cuckoo, but i spent a bunch of time researching banana savers (cases, holders, keepers). can you spell a-n-a-l r-e-t-e-n-t-i-v-e? there were a lot of reviews about various models (except this one), both good and bad, so i ended up buying three different models (the third one hasn't been delivered yet).

This banana saver is pretty sturdy--sturdy enough, i'm sure, to protect any banana from squishage. the problem is, it's SO sturdy that i couldn't get it open at first. i had no idea how it was supposed to work (no instructions), and every way i tried, i failed to get the darn thing to open (i even tried a screwdriver--no go). i could see how it was supposed to open, but nothing i tried worked (short of using a hammer, which would kind of have defeated the purpose). believe me, i felt like a total DOLT for letting a piece of plastic shaped like a banana get the better of me (i mean how humiliating is that?)!!

finally (after a half hour, sigh), i figured it out. the small circular latch in the middle of the banana, that looks like it should be the main locking mechanism, is not. instead, there are two small "tabs" on either end of the banana, each one separated into two interlocking pieces, which open when pushed apart (just like an old fashioned change purse). unfortunately, those two interlocking pieces were fused together--much like a toy whose many small parts have to be pulled out of a larger matrix. NO amount of twisting on my part would break them apart; the plastic was too thick. In the end, i had to cut them open so the tabs could snap open and closed (at least that's what *I* had to do because of my small, dainty hands ;) perhaps a manly man could have done it, but not me. it took AGES for my tiny frontal cortex to figure it out (ginko biloba, anyone?).Read more ›

I bought this product for my 5y old son's lunch box. Although it seems big enought to hold any banana size and sturdy enough to protect it, i find it too hard to open. If it took me more than a minute to figure out how to open it. It will be harder for little hands.
I will probably have to cut the sides to make it easier to open.

I bought this as a present for my husband who commutes by bicycle. I thought this would be the perfect way for him to keep a banana protected while throwing it into his messenger bag. And it works wonderfully. The only issue is if the banana is too large to fit completely in the case, at which point, a quick clipping of the banana stem makes it fit perfectly. Very happy that he is happy and the fruit isn't squished or bruised!

These are great for protecting fragile bananas. Most bananas seem to fit easily (not all though). I find them easy to open but some members of my family find opening them can be a little difficult. We used them to carry bananas for my little niece at Disneyland and her bananas were always kept safe in the backpack (even though we were in and out of rides all day).

Unfortunately, they look like a product that you'd find at the 99 cent store. We have other versions of this that actually fit and hold a banana. This product will absolutely not fit a banana inside.
