I listen to a lot of music, yet it is rare for me to rate albums. However, this album is just wonderful and I was compelled to sign in and tell anyone on the internet how good this album is. I thought Chris August's first effort was good. This one is better. If you are considering buying it, consider no longer. Just buy it. If you aren't considering buying it, you should be. Every song is uplifting, catchy, thought-provoking, and encouraging. I can't stop with the accolades for this album. All I can say is buy it. You will not be disappointed.

When listening to this CD--I think you will definitely notice a shift from his debut album. I think "The Upside of Down" wrestles with a lot more serious issues than his first release which was more lighthearted (except for 7x70).

The CD opens with the radio single "Center of It" and the title track "Upside of Down"...both of these songs deal with recognizing God's role in the midst of our struggles and pain. No matter what, God is in the center of our problems and drawing closer to Him is the upside to our down times!

The CD then moves into dealing with some of the issues in our society and church...songs like "Restore" deal with the problem of divorce and God's desire to bring healing to broken homes. These songs build up to the moving ballad, "I Believe" which is a strong testament to our faith over signs and wonders...with words like "I don't need a rainbow to know who made the rain, don't need the waters parted to know who made the way, and I don't need a healing to know who is the cure"

The album then picks up again with the fun song "1989" which is about seeing Jesus the way a child does and trusting Him without question. "Unashamed of You" is another fun song which encourages us all to stand up for Jesus regardless of what others think.

The CD slows down again for the song "A Little More Jesus" which deals with our human inconsistencies and how we need more of him and less of us. "Let the Music Play" is the last major upbeat song on the album and pushes for us to keep on trying in the midst of our failures. The last three songs are ballads reinforcing our faith in Christ.

Chris also experiments with a couple different styles on this Cd which make it an enjoyable album.

Years ago I mostly listened to Christian music. Then, it went WAY down in quality. The actual music wasn't that great and the lyrics got watered down. Christian music is finally turning around and is getting up to par with mainstream in quality. That said, THIS album surpasses most every release I heard in 2012 from ANY genre. I enjoyed Chris' first album, but, at times, it was a bit too pop for me. This one still has a few catchy pop style songs, but it also has several r&b sounds on a few songs. The lyrics are much deeper, the music is great, and his voice is amazing. You'll find yourself thinking about the songs long after they're over. Right now, I'm loving "Amen," "Restore," "A Little More Jesus," and "The Center of It." There isn't, like most albums, a song that I want to skip. They're all great!

Chris August has really delivered a stellar new album, The Upside Of Down, his second for Fervent Records/Word. With an impressive sweep at the 42nd Annual Dove Awards, he earned awards for "New Artist of the Year" and "Male Vocalist of the Year," adding him to an elite group of only three artists in the history of the show who have received both awards. He also claimed the nod for "Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year" for his debut album No Far Away. The 14-track new album was co-produced by August alongside Ian Eskelin (Francesca Battistelli, Sidewalk Prophets).

It leads off with the infectious lead single, "Center Of It," which picks up right where he left off and takes it up a notch musically as this album is loaded with musical hooks and what stands out the most to me are the messages of these ultra-catchy songs such as the vertical and prayerful lyrics from the opener: "when I rise, when I fall, You'll be there through it all" right from Psalm 139. Amen! Rather than describe every song, let me just say this is one of the most captivating albums I've ever heard. Chris has a vocal sincerity and creativity that rivals Bebo Norman, Brandon Heath and Jason Gray, who are my top male singer-songwriters of all-time. Some of the stand-out moments of the album include "The Upside Of Down" where Chris brilliantly sings the biblical truth, "You are strength in my weakness," and in the chorus "In the midst of the sadness, I'm closer to You now, that's the upside of down." The Kingdom of God confounds worldly expectations and is counter-cultural. As the opening tracks establish, it is in our weakness that we are closest to God.

I am a believer and my testimony is that my love for music led me to Jesus Christ due to the Gospel messages of Christian music.

I had seen the name Chris August before, but I never thought to buy his music. A little while back I noticed this MP3 album was only $6.99. I love a good bargain, so I decided to listen to the samples. Once I did, I bought the album.

There are so many good Contemporary Christian Music Artists these days, so I have quite a few albums. From month to month, or week to week, there is always one I'll listen to more than any of the others and right now my most favorite is The Upside of Down. I love every song and the honest lyrics, especially: `Amen' - Give me more than just religion/'Cause it feels like somethin's missin' and `This Side of Heaven' - I remember how He showed me love is first above all/ And that judgment should come slowly `cause we all have our faults.
