Per other reviews, this is a great jacket with many solid features for the price. One thing though--don't be put off by the main zipper. When I first tried to zip my jacket it was very, very difficult. Unzipping from the bottom up proven even more difficult. I called customer service at Outdoor Research and spoke with a customer service rep. who was both knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing thing these days. Anyway, she said the waterproofing wax around the zipper was stiff when new and had to be 'worked' a bit to loosen it up. I put the jacket on a table and just zipped/unzipped it about five times and then I did the same with the bottom zipper and, just as she said, they both worked perfectly. For the price and features it would be hard to top this jacket. (I'm giving it four stars instead of five because I think the tip for loosening the main zipper should be noted with the care instructions.)

This jacket is exactly what I wanted. I researched all the leading brands' goretex rain shells before deciding on the Aspire. For starters, you can't beat the quality to price ratio of this jacket. It's much cheaper than comparable jackets from other manufacturers and it's essentially made of the same materials. Taped seams where they're needed, non-rustle-y fabric, lightweight, packable. And the customer service at OR is fantastic- I sent one of those annoyingly vague technical emails in to them and they responded with an informed email within hours with answers I was looking for.

Secondly, the fit is spot on for me- a bit longer to just cover about half of my rear, and wide enough to fit over it (I'm an athletic build with some junk in my trunk- 5'5", a muscular 150lbs- couldn't ask for a better fitting jacket - I took a large).

Thirdly- I love the poncho-style under-arm zippers. You won't find this very often on comparable rain jackets for some reason but this is truly the way to go for venting. The misconception is that goretex is fully breathable- this is not true. The pores in goretex will allow a certain rate of moisture to escape, but if you're doing something like running or strenuous hiking, there's no material currently available that will vent 100% of that humidity. Read- there will be condensation on ANY waterproof material if you're exercising. However, with the aspire's full zip pit vents, you can get as much or as little air flowing around you as you want and still keep dry. I've had this jacket for several weeks now and taken it up in the Whites for some winter hiking- it's been great. I'm not easy on my equipment but this jacket has held up. My only complaint is the zipper could be a little easier to get started, but that's probably a one-off fluke. I'm looking in to purchasing the aspire rain pants as well. Great job OR.

I've been very happy with everything I've purchased from OR. I'm always amazed by the extra thought they put into features I didn't even know existed! I compared this with some other leading brand jackets, and the fact this has not only the zip pits, but also the zips on the side to completely open the bottom of the jacket is so smart! So many adjustments built into this jacket as well. Looking forward to putting it to the test on a trip soon. Only downside is they don't seem to make any petite sized items with OR, so the arms are always a tad too long on me and the legs on pants are always way too long. Since this jacket has the Velcro wrist cuffs, I can make it work, but I do get extra billow in the arms - but small price to pay for otherwise excellent rain jacket.

My only complaint is that it isn't long enough, especially in the front. There is a little mullet action going on. I ended up ordering two, a small and a medium, because there was conflicting feedback on the sizing. I'm returning the medium. I'm 5'6", 130 lbs if that helps anyone else. Other than the jacket being short in front it's a great jacket. It kept me dry in a long walk during a 45 degree rainstorm. I had another jacket on beneath to keep me warm.

This really keeps you dry. It fits good, not to heavy so in the humidity its great. Dries quickly. I use in the summer rains we have here in southern Florida to walk my dog and the rains can come pretty hard and quick here this does the trick. Really works good for me.

Bought with the Aspire Pants and I love this system. The biggest decision I had to make when purchasing these, was what size to order. To pay it forward, I'm 5'6 and about 127 lbs, not large busted. Medium jacket is perfect size for me, layering underneath with mid weight down jacket but not so large it's inhibiting without the layers. Has performed great so far, super lightweight, packs small and comfortable.

This rain shell folds up to the size of a burrito, which makes it easy to stuff into your pack, or in my case lose somewhere on my travels. After I'd finished cursing myself I bought another one. I like it that much. It is very light. It is understated and does not have annoying neon color zips. It has a sensible hood. Of course it's waterproof. And in addition to the two-way front zip, the really great feature is the pit zips that can open up all the way to the hem. Lots of ventilation options make this a very comfortable jacket for all conditions. If you size up it's also tough enough to go skiing over a down jacket. I'll be more careful with this one!
