I started using this when Bitdefender gave it to me to compensate for an unusual problem that developed in the 2012 version after 1.5 years, so I've used 2013 Total Security for nearly 6 months. It installed easily and perfectly. It has done a great job. There have not been any problems of any kind. I'm using it on an HP desktop and a Dell laptop with Windows 7, IE 9, and Office 2010. My subscription was for 2 years, which runs out in about 30 days, and I'm definitely buying it for another 2 years.

11-11-12 Yesterday I bought the 3 PCs/2 years package and don't regret it despite the newest reviewer who had a problem with customer support. My experiences with customer support (chat, email, and phone) over the years I've used the product have been timely and helpful, although I've had so few difficulties that I haven't needed support often. Also, to balance the picture, I've used the two big name products that usually get great reviews and had such horrible experiences with them that I'll never use them again.

I'm outvoted in reviews about Bitdefender here, but that does not invalidate my experiences with them or the product. You can check software review sites and see that this product has great ratings. Since everyone's computer, network, etc., are different, a wide variety of individual experiences is to be expected.

12-09-12 Two items: (1) I neglected to say earlier that I began using Bitdefender in 2008. In all that time, there have been no problems. (2) Today I installed Bitdefender Total Security 2013 on both of my computers. Installation was easy and fast. I'm happy, and I believe my computers are safe.

Thus far the software has proved to be very good in virus protection and is quite manageable and setting up an Internet firewall for laptops and PCs. It is simple and straightforward to manage and is not resource intensive. It is a very solid product and thus far has done everything that I've asked it to do at a very affordable price.

I am not sure why all the negative reviews? I bought this because my 2011 version expired and it was cheaper than renewing through Bitdefender. I installed on 2 machines, and XP and Windows 7 machine and both installed without any problems. This latest version works a lot better than the 2011 version and the interface is a huge improvement. Lots of options to customize and very easy to navigate.

I've been using Bitdefender for nearly two years on a pair of machines, one running Windows 7, the other running Vista. (Initially, of course, I was using Bitdefender's Total Security 2011, but like most security software, they let you upgrade for free while under contract.) I initially chose Bitdefender Total Security because it was one of the most highly rated security suites out there, and two years later it still is. Reviewers disagree about whether Bitdefender or Norton is the best (with a few votes out there for Kaspersky as well), but pretty much everyone (including CNET, PC Mag, etc.) still has it in the top two or three. That includes top ratings for its firewall and its virus protection and repair, which are the things that really matter for most users. The two-year value edition (which fluctuates between $25 and $40 on Amazon) makes it the best value among those top three companies.

If you're like me -- a highly competent user, but with no expertise "under the hood" -- it's hard to tell what one of these suites is really doing. But the good news is that two years later, both computers are still fine, so at some level, I got what I paid for, and that alone makes it worth considering a renewal. The 2013 release also runs better on both computers than the 2011 version (I never used the 2012). Where the earlier version would cripple performance while performing scans that took hours, the 2013 version is barely noticeable, though it does seem to take a little longer to get online when starting up.

That said, I've also experienced a number of bugs with both versions I've used, and found their customer support absolutely terrible.

Hides in the Background and does one Phenomenal Job.
Can be fined tuned to your needs or can work automatically with factory settings.
I am very intune and computer literate. I used most of the factory settings and let it burn and churn in the background.
I wished it had always been this good, but they have finally made a change-over app that will burn-up the competition.
If you are tired of Norton v. Hog and McAfee v. Highjack, you will love this. Now we can sleep at night knowing BitDefender is on the job.

I'm pretty good with computers and these things come to me intuitively, so I figured this is just a simple software, how hard can it be? Well, I was wrong!! This crappy product has major flaws, and I'd gladly give it a zero if I could. Here are some problems:

1. It changes from autopilot to user mode in two PCs I installed it.

2. Program failed to detect a virus from a downloaded program at pre-install scan. I installed program and ended up with a virus. I had to clean it manually and with the help of OTHER products.

3. For weeks, this crappy SW failed downloading its daily updates, and to make it worse, it inhibits updating other programs. At this time, I have no protection! Fortunately, I use Linux most of the time.

4. The interface is awfully complicated. I usually can figure out things quickly, but this is very confusing.

5. Tech support is useless. They're open 24 hours but work on the stone age. It's not even a toll-free number, and all communications are by email. I've been dealing with them for several days, by email mainly, on the update failure issue. With my current problem, they asked me if I has another security product on my PC, I said "yes", and they asked me to remove it to fix the updating problem. I told them I doubted that would fix the problem but I'd give them the benefit of doubt. I was right, removing the other program didn't do a thing!!

6. One of my PCs boots every single time with the clock several hours ahead and have to reset it. All settings are correct, and when I boot up the same machine on Linux, there's no problem. Therefore, it's not the battery, and though I cannot confirm 100% this is caused by BitDefender, I'm starting to think this is it.

7.
