What's good about this case is it leaves you enough room ...

Just wanted to second what everyone has said. The tools in this kit are not cheap, but they are not the $300 crimper that you can buy if you run wires for a living. As a systems administrator and IT consultant, I keep the kit in my trunk and use them to crimp a wire here and there when needed, or punch down a drop. What's good about this case is it leaves you enough room to store some cat5 ends in the case in between the crimper handles and i also keep a cat5 cable or 2 and just lie it on top of all the tools and the case closes fine. it's definitely helped me out of a jam a few times when I'm at a location and I have a bad cable that i need to pop an end on or need to punch something down. It's perfect for someone who needs to use these type of tools on a semi regular basis. great purchase.

Adequate

The reviews here convinced me to give this a try, I was looking for a kit pretty much exactly like this, though I would have paid more for better quality tools. The screwdriver is particularly egregious, it is a dual ended phillips/blade job and nothing actually secures it in place (there's no "click" in place and it wobbles about inside the handle). The wire cutters and stripper were fine, but the way they seat in the case is not very useful: the wire cutters actually fit "into" the open area of the stripper, which makes it prone to rubbing against some of the cutting blades if you're not careful putting it in/taking it out. The crimper seems adequate, but the lock mechanism doesn't appear to work. (It has an arrow indicating to turn to unlock, but turning either direction, pushing, pulling, or otherwise manipulating it when open, closed, or on release doesn't appear to engage the lock into place.) It also didn't fit one of the RJ-45 connectors I tried. I also wish that it came with a battery; this takes a 9-volt so it may not be a battery you have laying around. I wound up using my old crimpers (which I was looking to replace because they tend to crush the plastic clip-tab...), using a speed test website to test the cable and my own screwdriver to adjust the strippers.

I just thought I'd leave a bit of a counterpoint to the other reviews here; all in all it's a useful piece of kit, but you are definitely getting what you pay for. I'll hang onto it for use in the future, but I'd rather have got something else.

P.S. The plastic window in mine was cracked, I don't know if it came that way or if I inadvertently cracked it in the one time I opened and closed it before I actually used it the first time. It's thin-ish plastic, so you'll want to make sure the tools are seated well in the foam to avoid breaking your own.

I wouldn't recommend this product. Very cheaply made but what can you expect for $50. The clippers are not very sharp. I sort of knew what I was getting into but I didn't expect it to be as bad as what other reviewers had already mentioned.

Update:
I had to downgrade my review to, AVOID.
-Tester was a joke. Wires 2-4 didn't work. Make sure you have another tester to verify that tester is correct. I relied on this product with the presumption it was non-defective. I was wrong. After receiving another tester from a buddy I realized the tester was bad and not the cable.
-Wire cutters does not cut straight
-Crimpers nicks the wires inside

I just returned it today.

For the price, the product is not at the quality expected. The crimper has one teeth that is off and cannot crimp ends. The cutter with plastic handle can barely cut. The punch down has one impact Low, when you try High, it does not snap. Did not try the tester. Extremely disappointed. I bought this to do a job in the Bahamas and now I am stuck. I might just miss the return time...

Why pay for a cable installer to fix a few issues, one kit does it all. Once I got the hang of it, I was trimming my cables and cleaning up the office in no time at all. Even found a few phone cables to tidy up. Love the clear window case, printed color coding for my cables and placed in the window. Only issue which has not been a real issue is plastic hinges, how log will they last. Then again, how often does one really use these tools unless it is a full time job, then you would most likely spend much more on better tools and case.

Reasonable value for a novice set of tools

Great value for the tools you get, especially for a starter kit such as this. However, it might be worth buying these tools separately to save on some frustrations down the road.

The crimp tool will work for most applications, but you can expect to have ~25% connector crimp failures or greater using this tool. It is improperly hinged which places initial force on pins 1-4 and eventually 5-8 but it won't fully seat pin 8 95-99% of the time. A quick glance at a crimped connector and you will notice that pin 8 is raised a fraction of a mm higher than the other pins. This will still result in a cable with continuity most of the time, but it is not ideal. I would recommend spending a bit more on a quality tool. GreenLee makes a good Cat5 crimper that will put this tool to shame every time. Sure, it's about 1.5x the cost of this kit but you'll save on the cost of botched connectors eventually.

Biggest frustration was with the cable tester. Worked for about 100 or so tests then lights for pins 3-6 stopped working. It took too long for me to realize that the cables weren't at issue and to realize it was the tester that was failing. Waste of time.

Punch down tool works great. No complaints.

Four stars on this review since this kit provides a novice and complete set of tools at a reasonable price. If you plan on using this for more than just a small project one time I would recommend spending a little bit more and buying the tools individually. There are some non-essential things in here anyway. Crimper, punch-down, tester. That all you really need in the end.
