What could possibly justify a $20 price for the Belkin MiXiT UP Aux Coiled Cable? I've compared the sound of this pricey cable with inexpensive cables and can hear no difference in the sound. The plugs are metal, but the Belkin branded plug protectors seem to be a silver hard plastic that covers the termination of the wiring and the jack.

Worse, though, is that this tightly coiled cable is supposed to stretch to a 6' length, and indeed it does stretch to about 6'. I decided to try this cable because the 4' generic cable I use at work to connect a DTA-1 amp to my laptop is about a foot shorter than I optimally need. Yet the Belkin coiled cord is not up to the job of replacing the shorter one because it is so tightly wound, it tugs both the Dayton amp and my laptop out of place rather than stretching to connect the two. In other words, this stiff, taut cord has a shorter actual reach than a straight 4' one.

I suppose I could stretch it out until it no longer would recoil, but what is the point? I used to think Belkin products represented a good value but after trying a couple of its cables recently, I recoil at spending this sort of money for this product. I cannot endorse expensive cables that neither perform nor function better than myriad inexpensive option.

I was looking for a cable like this to declutter the cables in my car, where I currently use a 6-foot 3.5mm aux cable to connect my iPod to the aux jack in my car. That much cable was getting in the way. For that reason alone I got this Belkin MIXIT coiled cable, and while it solved my problem, it has a number of disadvantages which I list below. Here are the pros and cons:

PROS:
De-Clutter: The coiled cable really prevents tangling with other cables. I used this in my car, and my previous 6-foot 3.5mm aux cable got tangled up with my Garmin navi cables, passengers legs, etc. This Belkin cable corrects that problem.

Looks and Sound: The bright color and coiled style look pretty cool. This of course is a purely subjective assessment. The sound is just fine, the cable carries its signal as well as other 3.5mm aux cables I own. I suppose the "Chrome-finished plugs and nickel-plated contacts" help here.

CONS:
Cost: For a 3.5mm Aux cable whose only unique feature is the coil, this cable is very overpriced. It should be in the $5 range. Maybe $7-8 for the color. Above $10 this cable is simply not worth it.

Not Case Friendly: The jack itself is only long enough to go into your device to the point where the cap sits flush with the top of the input; there is no additional slim shank. So if you have a case on your iPhone, iPod, etc. the jack will likely not plug in all the way. This is just silly design and a rookie mistake from an experienced manufacturer like Belkin.

Length: The product description says this is a 6 foot cable, but confusingly also indicates it is only 4 feet ("Coiled cable stretches to 4-Feet (1.2m)"). I imagine you could get to 6 feet if you stretched it past the point where the coils would ever recover.Read more ›

I got this to replace a worn, damaged, cheap generic cable that I've had since dinosaurs roamed the earth. I figured that between what must be far better specs for this cable and the exposed wires on the old one, I'd hear some kind of improvement in sound with the new cable.

Nope.

This cable works. It was nice to have a coiled cable at first, but in a couple of weeks it's gotten a bit stretched from its own weight, and has remained stretched out even after resting on a flat surface for days. And of course it's red, which may or may not be a priority. For me it's only useful in that it's right next to a black coiled cable, and I know which cable I want without chasing down the ends.

So, sound quality: acceptable, coil: poor. Price: expensive for an unremarkable cable.

This is an excellent quality item with rugged construction. For those looking for a 3.5mm plug with the very small width to fit phone cases and other openings, this is narrowest plug I've found.

I was looking for a replacement cable to fit into my JVC HANC-250 noise cancelling headphones, and tried many of the cords available on Amazon. The Belkin cables are the only ones that fit the headphones properly due to a very narrow channel leading to the plug receptical.

I purchased this auxiliary cable to use primarily with my Ipod, in my car. Prior to this cable, I had one of those retractable ones that worked perfectly...or so I thought, until I received this one. Wow! What a difference this cable makes in the sound quality! The music sounds much clearer, more crisp. It's totally awesome! At first I thought it was just my imagination, but then I did an actual back to back sound test, using the two different cables; yup, this one produces a higher quality sound. It comes coiled fairly tight, but can be stretched up to a total length of 6 feet; I uncoiled mine and it did stretched to just about 6 feet. Once I released the cable it bounced back to it original length, though I cannot say if that would still be the case if I had kept it stretched for an extended period of time. I really don't need that much length in my car, due to the location of the auxiliary output; I only purchased the 6 feet cable, as opposed to the 3 feet, in the event I ever need the longer length...such as if I were to switch cars. In any event, I liked the coil feature as it keeps the excess cord retracted and out of the way (a problem I had once my so called retractable one stopped working.) So overall, this cord is attractive, with it's slender profile and tight coil, and it works great. Fits my need ideally!
