I bought this product for my raspberry pi in case I can't ssh or vnc into it. I want to replace a more expensive $50 in-store product (it was QVS video converter HDVGA-MF; product description is to converts PC/Tablet HDMI port into VGA/video port).
This product is labelled as Adapter (as oppose to converter). The adapter vs converter description is confusing but adapter is usually a dumb/passive device that just allow to different type of connectors to go from one kind to another kind.
A converter usually means it is a smart/active device that converts the signal levels/outputs to something else.
Anyway, this product works with the Pi HDMI output. If you want to use this for displaying into your VGA monitor remember check my note below. I have not tried the audio cable or function at all so I don't know how it performs.
At first I don't get my monitor to display anything. So it is either the monitor is not detecting the Pi or vice versa. Anyway, I try settting hdmi_safe=1 in the config.txt (under your boot folder) and I have the display working with very low resolution but I think that is the safe mode.
Then I figured out that I needed to change the hmi_force_hotplug=1.
It works after that. Results looked similar as the $50 product.
I didn't leave the monitor plug in for a long time to test if durability or if the power supply or the pi get too hot.

I would recommend this for Pi user but keep in mind you need to tweak your config.txt

I was in need of a cable to connect my new laptop to a projector to conduct my continuing education classes at a local college. The previous laptop I had used a VGA output. The college had an HDMI cable so I didn't think twice about the issue until I was scheduled to use a classroom that DID NOT have one. This little adapter does the trick. The only issue I had was that I could not mirror the display, I could only output my laptop to the projector but as it turns out the same is true using the HDMI also. Thumbs up to Amazon and thumbs down to Best Buy, their sales guy said there was no such thing as an HDMI to VGA adapter!

I have used this Adapter to connect a Google Nexus 7 (2013) with Android 4.4 KitKat to an external monitor or Video-projector.
I use a Slimport to HDMI adapter and then the Cable Matters Active HDMI to VGA connected to the slimport adapter.
It's important to use the USB Power adapter in order to work properly but works perfectly.
Analogix (manufacter of the Slimport), has no VGA adapters for Nexus 4 or Nexus 7 (2013) so this is a good solution if you want to connect it to an external VGA.

I was skeptical about this guy, but it works great without extra power. I was looking to connect an apple TV to a projector over VGA. This worked great for me, and I didn't have to spend the $50+ for the one from apple. I have found one issue - it doesn't work with a VGA active extender, but works fine with long VGA cables. I have no idea why, but it hasn't caused too much issue for me.

My 1989 Zenith telivision is getting unreliable and I had an extra VGA Monitor sitting around, so I was looking for some way to watch TV on it. I had A Toshiba DR430 DVD recorder and an I-view Multi-function Digital Converter Box that had HDMI outputs, So I thought I would try this adapter. It works quite well using either of these sources. I have not needed the USB power for this to work with either of these devices.

This adapter has worked with everything I've tried in on so far. For most devices you don't need to use the external power hookup for it. There is an audio out as well. The device listing is a little confusing. The cable itself isn't 3 feet long, it's actually only about 11" from tip to tip. The audio cable and USB cable that it comes with are probably close to 3 feet (haven't needed to use them yet). I bought this a and cheap adapter at the same time. The price on this adapter seemed a little steep but I decided that I should try the two of them and see which worked better. The cheaper adapter didn't seem to work for anything, so I returned it. I actually was glad I spent the extra for this one. This one is flawless. I just plug it in and instant video out to VGA.

Amazing product! I needed to connect an android stick (Measy U2C) to a monitor that just had VGA input and was skeptical if this would fit the bill.
I connected the adapter to the HDMI output of the Measy U2C Dock and it just worked. I did not need to power the device via it's micro-USB slot so I was pleased about that. The only issue I had was the screen image was a little off to the right, but I believe it could be a problem with my monitors (its a cheaply made one).
